I found homeopathy helpful in the early days of my illness, ie pre-lupus diagnosis when fatigue was the main problem. But as things progressed it didn't seem to help. I would try it again now if I had the money for it, but I think it would be to help with certain symptoms linked to lupus, such as ibs, rather than as an over all treatment.

I have read somewhere, possibly St Thomas lupus trust site, that there certain natural remedies to avoid, or that can react with some lupus drugs. So it would be worth checking this with your rheumy to be on the safe side.

There has been a post recently by someone who is finding Chinese medicine & acupuncture helpful, so again worth checking out.

Best wishes, I hope it does help if you decide to try it. Please let us know how you get on. X

I'm a huge fan of "alternative" remedies and have tried just about everything over the decades Niokke, including homeopathy, herbalism, acupuncture, juicing/diets, different forms of physical therapies and spiritual healing to name a few - and for things other than lupus, going way back before this wretched disease was triggered. Luckily my Rheumatologist is pro-alternatives and always interested to hear about them. One in particular that springs to mind is "Devils Claw" - worked well for me for lupus for a short time but not long-term in my particular experience. Worth noting that Southampton Hospital trialled Devils Claw for a few years on patients with severe arthritis of the knee, apparently to some success, so might be worth a go! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harpa...

Hi Niokke,

I am currently having homoeopathic treatment, which treats the whole person (like most alternative therapies) rather than a particular condition. 2012 was a rough year for me, mainly due to strong reactions every time I got new remedies (every 6 weeks) - though on the whole, I am getting better ..albeit slowly. However, homoeopathy is not a 'miracle cure' - and getting better takes time. An old saying says 'It takes as long to get well, as it took to get ill' (!). Guess I'll have to be patient then, as have had lupus 'forever' ;)

I have used homoeopathy occasionally in the past but never 'full on' like this time. In my case, the digestive system was the first to heal (..been very bad, for as long as I can remember, with IBS and other problems!) and is now working well. A poor digestive system (candida, leaky gut..) affects everything in the body, including circulation and vital organs. I haven't had any joint flares for six months (came and went all the time before), no blue fingers, hardly any fatigue and various other symptoms are gone or much improved. I still have some eye problems, usually after computing(!), but now have a screen which seems to help.

You may have guessed that I am pretty chuffed about my progress :) I feel so much better, so do hope I can afford sticking with this ..for as long as it takes.

PS - Naturally, I also take some supplements daily and do other things to keep well.

Good luck <3

Hello! Could you please tell me what homeopatic supplements you use?

Iam from Croatia and the only homeopatic doctor in my town has perscribed 10 diferent medications for treating lupus mostly made in germany but I still dont have courage to treat my 16 year old daughter with it

Hi Niokke, did you try homeopathy in the end? I've decided to give it a go again after getting no where with conventional medicine & so wondered if you'd had any joy.

Hi niokke...I take a multi vitamin, cranberry supplement (to keep UTI at bay), turmeric supplement, drink ginger tea daily, and now just recently taking up digestive enzymes because I think I had leaky gut, ibs (my mom had colitis). I feel a little less tired, my night sweats are not as hot, so I am not waking up all night long. I still have joint pain here and there, and I am exercising cardio(bike ride or walk) at least 5 days a week. I am also taking a natto k enzyme because I may be a clotter (two of my brothers are on Coumadin for clotting) . This natto k helps me with my migraines, which have subsided. I still get tightness in my neck, skin irritation on my calves. My dizziness is a lot better too. But, all in all, I feel ok most days. No medication. But, I am considered low end of the scale in my lupus blood test. Good luck! I believe in the body healing itself. Keeping stress low (which seems to aggravate symptoms) is the hardest one to tackle.
