A few weeks ago I had a kidney infection. Then 3days into it I went numb down my right side & was taken to hospital where every doctor I saw had a different opinion of whats happening to me! So now I am out of hospital with a discharge of Lupus flare up and a non CT stroke - plus another kidney infection... Anybody able to explain what a nonCT stroke is? My GP & friends in nursing & care work roles are all befuddled. The hospital reccomended an urgent appointment with my rheumy ( it came today - 28 september) & & neurologist (not my 1st stroke & never seen one of those before.)

Am I ok to go back to work? Drive? I'm 38, single mum with lupus + add ons & spina biffida - my car is my legs!!!

More than a little worried, Im still top side of the soil & have bills to pay, mouths to feed... (Sorry, I'm bleating now!)

A diagnostic study performed in patients with suspected stroke is a NON CONTRAST CT (it differentiates between ischemia from hemorrhage).

It is likely this is what "NON CT STROKE" is referring to.

Always best to discuss and clarify terms with your medical professional providers. Guessing is never wise when it comes to medical matters.

A MRI is far superior to a CT scan.

With spina biffida in the mix ... it would be wise to personally contact your Rheumatologist, either by letter or in person, now with this additional symptom/incident.

With stroke much can be done to limit the damage in the early days (Rxs). If possible it is always best to prevent further complications or additional stroke potential.

Be well. Take care. Happy days out of Hospital. Hugs to your children.

On on on ...

After thoughts ....

Strokes are serious matters.

To clarify ... it is very important for you to follow Hospital's request.

Get an urgent appointment with a Neurologist (as you already have your appointment with Rheumatologist).

As this was not your 1st stroke, you have Lupus+spina biffida, you are 38 with dependent children, this needs to be attended to.

The Neurologist is your best friend in this situation. The Neurologist can and will determine what is required to protect / prevent / manage your central nervous system / brain health.

For your own safety, for the safety of your children, and for the safety of other drivers on the roadways, I work strongly suggest you to avoiding driving, have someone else be the driver, until this is sorted. Yes, it may be over and done with; but it may also be an on going issue that requires attention.

Please take care of yourself.

I am a radiographer and this is not a term we use.......i would have thought it means the stroke is not evident on the ct scan, however, it is clinically apparent eg, clinical symptoms and bloods showing raised d-dimer, TIA are not always apparent on ct scans in the early stages sometimes it can take a week or so before they show up as high intensity areas on the scan.....I would get in touch with your consultant and ask that they explain this to you...or speak to the radiology department where the scan was done and say you are not happy that the scan has not been correctly explained to you....they have a duty to provide you with the information you require

Thanks for your responses, incredibly helpful. I dont HAVE anybody to be a driver for me/us so I'm housebound unless I MUST go out (gp,hospital, clinic) I have to get taxis as I wont drive until I am told it is safe for me to do so. Thanks for the heads up on who I need to speak to too, I felt like I've just been turfed out to fend for myself now I'm not numb, with no info or support.

You have support here. I know that might not be as comforting as an in person / hand to hold / helper to drive; but it is indeed true. All here at this blog support you. Please take care.
