Is it safe to take supplements, such as Gingko bi... - LUPUS UK
Is it safe to take supplements, such as Gingko biloba? I'm not on any lupus meds.
Hi i was told 2 take Gingko Biloba as well as my Lupus meds so should be fine for you 2 take.I hope this helps.xxxx
I've heard that it stimulates your immune system which is the OPPOSITE of what you nees since Lupus overstimulates the immune system. I would be leery of it until your rheumatologist says to take it. The last thing someone with Lupus needs is a boost to the immune system! Good luck.
Please let me know what you find out. i will ask my rheumatologist Friday. She is a world reknowned doctor at Duke so hopefully she will know.
As with any over the counter supplement best to gain permission and proper dosage from your doctor/s.
Please know that herbal medicinal remedies are NOT REGULATED as stringently as prescription drugs. All kinds of toxins, molds, fungus, bacteria, and parasites get into the mix. Beware.
Self medicating with alternative remedies, or over the counter meds, is never recommended, nor is it safe, without proper guidance supervision advisement communication with your doctor/s.
Hi Lynn - please re my blog which i posted today - attended a Lupus Uk AM meeting yesterday and the Specialist there didn't like people with Chronic conditions, such as Lupus to take any supplements. Mostly because, as i have heard prior that they are not licensed and not enough is known about them and the affects they can have. My Rheum will not allow me to take any supplements apart from folic acid and calcichew which have been prescribed by him. Not enough is known yet about the immune system and you could be doing more harm than good.
The Dr yesterday at the meeting did advocate sensible and healthy eating and exercise as well as vitamin c, mutil vitiamins and pro biotic drinks - everything else should be got from your healthy eating. Everything he said made very good sense!
hope this helps ?

Thank you, Lulabelle. I've emailed a couple of lupus nurses to see what they have to say, but it does help to hear what other people may have been told.
