I was diagnosed with lupus in January and have an amazing consultant and lupus specialist nurse at the hospital....i have an appt for a heart scan in a couple of weeks, and awaiting an appt to check my lungs... is this something that everyone is tested for? any ideas why they test you?
heart scan...: I was diagnosed with lupus in... - LUPUS UK
heart scan...
i have anather condition that causes me to have bad palpitaions so have been under a cardiologist since september last year. the regular ultrasound scan was not enough so i was referred for a mir scan. i am going tommorow for a follow up but they dont know about my lupus maybe thats what has caused my problems in the past.
i have not really been offered these scans in relation to my lupus, but by chance. i suppose i am getting it by default lol.
you sound like your doctors know what they are doing. i just feel that i am stumbling in the dark.
the good thing is forums like this give me information so that i can monitor my treatment and be aware of what should be happening.
i get the concensus that treatment for lupus is very touch and go.
good luck lindsay81
She maybe just a really good consultant that wants to rule out that Lupus has not affected any of your major organs...it sounds like she is being pro-active oppose to re-active. Dont worry, I have had an MRI and a heart scan...all were clear and they are not painful tests.
Thankyou to you both, they seem to be deffo on top of doing all the checks which is good. and its good to see others having these types of tests
SLE has the potential of effecting everything and anything at any point in time.
SLE most often harms the heart, joints, skin, lungs, blood vessels, liver, kidneys, and nervous system.
The course of the disease is unpredictable - relasping / remitting. It is a bit like following the bouncing ball of symptoms - what leads where.
Your docs are 'on it' protecting you as they should do. Well done docs. Take comfort you are being seen to.
Be well.
when i was diagnosed with lupus nepritis,i was fully checked over and they also sent me for a lung xray and lung function test which were "normal" i asked them why i had to have these tests and i was told it was as lupus can effect your organs, after months of check ups they always commented on how fast my heart was beating,i suffer terrible anxiety and all the meds made my heartrate worse plus pressure of been at clinic,i keep on asking is lupus causing this etc and to put my mind at rest they sent me for a ECG and ECHO scan,be thankful you have such good doctors, good luck x
I also had heart scan (echo) and breathing tests (pft's) when i was first diagnosed all were normal. I am having them all repeated next year.
Great thankyou for your comments its much appreciated and from what ive read on others people questions etc my drs do seem on the ball i hope it carries on x
Hi Lindsay81, I am envious of the way your Dr's are looking out for you!!! What area do you come from?? I think I might move there!! lol x
aww thanks....im from sheffield and cannot praise them enough. ive read on here the nightmares people are and have had its taken me 4-5 years of fighting for a referral from my gp to get to this stage but truly feel that now i am under the hospital im in good hands....as for gp they have told me they know nothing about lupus, awesome i thought! x
