Hi all,im new to Lupus and here,i have noticed th... - LUPUS UK
Hi all,im new to Lupus and here,i have noticed that my feet are very dry and cracked,is it something to do with Lupus?
Hi Katknapp,
I feel that lots of people have dry and cracked feet who don't have lupus and I have never seen this listed as one of the symptoms. Because lupus affects people in so many ways, its sometimes difficult to sort our what is lupus and what is not, isn't it?
its just they are so itchy too,im not sure if its the meds,im on hydroxy or it was part of Lupus, even my toenails have gone deformed and discoloured.....hope no-ones eating their dinner while reading this lol!
Hi Katnapp and all those fed up with their feet.
I use Vicks VapoRub. A good dollop around toes and heels has softened the skin and cleared up my nail problems, but you have to keep putting it on every day to see the results. Makes your socks smell nice too, but don't apply it just before putting tights on as it can leave greasy marks! Worth a try...
Bizaarrly enough my feet reflect my general health (or visa versa)- I am constantly exfoliating and mosturiseing my feet- I have tried everything oils overnight creams etc etc -I did not have this problem before I had lupus- but then again I didnt have Reynards either (LOL). The health of my hands- particularly my cuticles is pretty dire too, and my consultant always seems interested in the state of my hands during appointments. I do also get a rash on the tops of my feet, which is itchy, this comes and goes and normally appears when I am run down.
I've never thought about relating my hands or foot to my other health issues (diabetes, lupus, vasculitis and APS) but as already said above my cuticles are very dry, my fingernails split and peel, the skin on soles of my feet is extremely dry and my big toenails at discoloured too. I recently saw a podiatrist who said the discolouration could be a fungal infection but the test came back negative. I use loads of moisturiser have tried expensive stuff cheap stuff foot files etc.my feet usually feel uncomfortable and a bi itchy. If anyone has any good ideas I'd loveto try them.
Hi Annie330,thats exactly how my feet are,i have tried everything from cracked feet cream to vasaline,i even tried olive oil as it was recommended but nothing seems to be working, maybe its the meds,i will see my doctor about it and let you know what he thinks.
hi everyone my hands and feet are also dry, cracked and often the ends of my fingers split and peel my toenails are also discoloured and my tests at dermatology for fungal infections came back negative too ! my feet are also constantly cold and itchy, my dermatologist diagnosed psoriasis but all the creams she gave me were no good either we cant all be wrong relating it to lupus surely ??
Boy am I glad to hear I'm not the only one. All of a sudden my feet did the same. Dry, cracking and discoloration. Also nornally when toe nails grow they just grow, mines grows slowley but so does the skin under them theres no space between the nail and toe. My fingernails also splits and are discolorated. I refuse to go unpolished. Normajean your right, we all caint be wrong.
I can relate to all this I have a diagnosis of psoriac arthritis as well as lupus! I don't have actual psoriasis just the pitting, ridging and peeling of the nails, skin growing to top of nail, cracked heels (slightly white n dry). I suggest you all look very closely at your finger nails and see if you have what looks like very tiny pin pricks in them. You might just have one or 2 maybe lots. If so I'm guessing you all have joint pain so its likely to be nail psoriasis linked to psoriac arthritis. For the nails I find nothing at all helps but for the feet I have found the best is l'occitane 100% pure shea butter, it comes in a tin looks a bit like candle wax but amazing if left on over night. Hope this helps
I'm with all of you in this stuff. Not nice at all. Feet & hands. Argh. And my raynauds is simultaneous with erythromelalgia plus vasculitis and collapsed metatarsals with mortons neuroma.
For what it's worth: After trying loads of diff creams, the best ones for me are Weleda foot balm and loccitane dry skin hand cream (both come in tubes. I have a pedicure by a very good feet informed young woman every 4 wks but no nail polish. And I avoid messing with my finger cuticles: have heard they need to be left alone in cases like ours. One of my biggest probs is that although vvv dry my feet do sweat enough to dampen my socks, so I change them 2x a day which helps. Also I discovered falke socks online: I've tried loads of makes and these come in a wide range of weights and materials and they all irritate my feet less than any other brand!
Good luck guys
my big toe toenails were also looking yellow as if I had a fungal infection but tests also came back negative. I tried to cover with nail polish but still looked awful so I decided to have them both removed, it was the best decision I made, now I can wear summer shoes and although I can no longer paint my nails (as it would make my no nail toe stand out) it is hardly noticable that the nail is gone unless someone is actually staring at my feet where as when my nail was discoloured it stood out a mile
Im so surprised at the response, it just goes to show that there must be a link here with Lupus,i will give shea butter a try, cant be any worse than the olive oil!
wow! I thought my dry, cracked & painful skin on my index fingers were due to my last job last year (lots of washing up with eco washing up liquid, hot water & rubber gloves & all eco cleaning products), as the skin went that way not long after starting that job & they cleared up after I left, but have started to reappear-tho' no where near as badly. I'm not on any meds (I refuse/post-phone taking any!as don't want to make myself any iller!). Maybe skin cracks are symptoms of my DLE...roll on my 1st!!!! Dermo appt next week!
Hope you get to the bottom of yours asap! Best of luck :0)
Hi all, my feet are dry and sore, I think my skin gets that dry my feet then break out in ulcers below ankle! I have tried all creams and go to a chiropodist regularly. I will try that Shea butter. Good luck
