I was diagnosed with SLE almost a year ago and have been taking hydroxychloroquine and steroids since then.
Something I’ve been finding difficult is not knowing if my symptoms are lupus related or something else. When I see the rheumatology dr, she always has the standard answer of ‘mmm doesn’t sound like lupus to me’. Which is fine of course except I’m not always convinced by this.
I’ve been trying to keep a symptom diary as much as possible to try and see if I can spot any patterns and what I have noticed is that when I’m particularly run down or stressed, I tend to see an increase in certain things. Hair loss, joint pain, fatigue, this weird thing at the corners of my mouth and then the thing I want to ask about is a rash around my ankles. It’s so localised and only seems to appear during times when I’m feeling really run down and poorly. It’s really itchy and I get these red blisters which turn into small scabs and then they leave a scar. The rheumy dr has decided it is scabies 🤷🏻♀️ which I have no idea about but when I googled it, it didn’t really sound like the rash I get. I can’t help but get the feeling she is quite quick to dismiss my concerns and I don’t know what to push and what to ignore.
Has anyone else had a rash like this before? I showed her a bunch of photos too so she has seen the rash.

This dermetnz page (beware of annoying add foot of page) shows lichen plants rash on ankles. I have areas that on my ankles that get sore and itchy like this, sometimes then can even bleed a bit. Much smaller than in photo.
Notice quinine included in causes..
but re hydroxychloroquine, only a minor side effect given all the great benefits it has for us.
Hi, i cant give you an answer to the cause, however I had a similar rash on my chest exactly as you decribe. i wasnt at the time diagnosed with any auto immune disease, the GP said it was scabies couldnt understand how i could possibly have caught it. I treated it as scabies, it eventually calmed down. 12 yrs on, i still have brown marks where the itching was, no where have i found that scabies leaves marks and I often wonder if it wasSLE and no one knew! I also would get hive like rash around ankles and shin. since being on hydroxychloroquine, most of the rashes have settled. Ive just put it down to my body reacting to something unknown.
