Alcohol flush

Hi. I was diagnosed with UCTD in October with a lupus rash (came on in July) and several Sjrogrens symptoms.

In the last month I have experienced alcohol flushes with red hot cheeks, rash flaring on chest, and hot flush. Has anyone else experienced this?

I don't drink a lot, so we're.talking after a glass of wine or a gin and tonic.

Thanks

I do! It’s caused by a histamine reaction… I take antihistamines twice a day but still get this… my nose & cheeks go bright red & make up slides off! :(

All the time! I don’t drink that much but every time I have a glass of anything alcoholic I get bright red cheeks!

When I go out now I don’t use blusher at all, because I know within 5 minutes of my first drink I’ll look like Aunt Sally!

I’m afraid it’s just something I have to live with and at least I look well! Good luck

I sometimes get this if I've not had alcohol for a while. Its just after a first few sips then goes away. I hardly have any booze now so doesn't happen often ..sadly ☹️

note my diagnosis is Adult onset Stills Disease which for me manifests as rheumatoid disease with some symptoms similar to lupus and PMR. Every evening I get a face flush like lupus. It’s worse if I also have a drink. I also have afternoon fevers, all odd but inline with rheumatic conditions.

I do too! 1 glass of wine is all it takes. It is uncomfortable, I feel hot all over and get a bright red face that looks pretty awful too. I have SCLE and Sjogrens. I avoid alcohol most of the time. Sorry it’s a problem for you too.

I can relate to that, I have virtually stopped drinking alcohol now, my body just doesn’t handle it well anymore. I had a glass of wine on Christmas Day and probably won’t have any until next Christmas.

Hiya Mamasqidy, yes I always get red hot cheeks when ever I drink alcohol and that is even just a G&T. I also can get a rash on my chest which I actually have now on holiday 😔 and on my shoulders and shoulder blades. I take Fexofenadine X2 day and antihistamine for hay fever as my body produces too much histamine. 😊X

Sorry to hear you've got a rash on your hols. That's frustrating! 🥴 I'll try antihistamines.

This is me too. My face goes like a tomato the first hour or 2 of drinking alcohol. Its so embarrassing. I rarely drink now. Wine is the worst offender too. At least we dont need blusher 😊
