Hi Everyone,I thought I had to share this with you I recently had to come off gluten totally including GF Oats and barley. As unable to tolerate them. I was diagnosed with IBS like 25 years ago when I was going to toilet very 3-4 times a day . This got worse recently 3 weeks ago went i had a full on gluten intake in one day and my body was rejecting jit and getting absolutely inflamed and ineas feeling so ill and wanting to be sick but could not plus having continuous diarrhoea from it bloating was horrendous and the pain was so bad in my tummy so painful unbelievable. My whole body felt so inflamed so painful. I told my husband I cannot have gluten any more came off them the next day then discovered my cereal had barley in them as I was still having stomach cramps. So though may be I can try Gf oats . Had oast with in 2 hours of having it I had bad cramps and diarrhoea. So no Oats.

I was already making GF bread for someone . So made some for myself . Some bread rolls by day 5 all pain and inflammation was gone from my body . Only a little joint pain but that is nothing compared to what I had before.

So my guess was body/ gut was not able to absorb anything there for not getting the full benefits of any meds or nutrients that I took.

So now I am definitely feeling much better . Doing much more thinking much more clearer. Exercising increasing it day by day. Did 5 mins on the bike 2 days a go then 10 mins yesterday. So please with myself nas I was never able to do it before my legs would go into spasm and the pins and needles pain would be so painful.i would not last even 1 or 2min on the bike.

So ,if you can change your diet stay off gluten at least 1 week and see if it makes any changes in your inflammation of your body it is worth the try.

Take care folks all of you.xxx

glad you’ve found a solution that helps with your condition. It’s surprising how foods can play a big part in our health without us realising. 🙂

Have you thought about doing a SIBO test? Like you I was told I had IBS years ago then about ten years ago like you it suddenly got worse and was told to go gluten free so did that and things improved. Then things went down hill again and was tested for SIBO and positive. Now can eat sourdough and some gluten containing foods. Also found out I have a soy allergy. It’s worth looking into other issues to find the cause of problems.

Glad you are feeling better.

Sorry to hear that you have had similar problems like I had.Glad to hear you found out your problems out.

No I have not been tested for anything yet not even celiac.

I am ok with Soya, and almond . It is only oats & barley , and any other form of gluten I cannot have. As I am getting back the extreme pins and needles back again and the pain at the base of both of my foot. Which I did not get when I initially did when I stopped gluten .

So it must be something i am taking /eating causing it .all I can think of is the bought plain rolls which we did 2days ago when we had to rescue our daughter as she fractured her foot. I usually bake my own bread . So I might just not have that bun and see if it makes any difference then I will know what the key ingredient that is causing the problem.

Well done!

There is a strong connection between diet and autoimmune illnesses.

I reversed nearly all of my Sjogren’s and Lupus symptoms with the Autoimmune Protocol. I lost almost 30 kilos and I am much more active.

If you’d like to look into it, there’s lots of free information here:

autoimmunewellness.com/

I hope your healing continues.

They should have advice you when you had colitis to go GF . What you need to watch is products that is used in them .I bake my own bread and I don't use Xantham gum if I feel I want a break from baking the only bread that doesn't have Xantham gum is Warburton's GF loaf. Just keep an good eye on what it is made from read each packing yes it takes longer shopping but it us worth it in the long run.

A while back they discovered a link between gluten and rheumatoid arthritis so I don’t think it will be long until they do the same with lupus. I cut it out years ago and it made a huge difference! I also do the autoimmune protocol that someone else mentioned and use the autoimmune wellness website, it has changed my life.

Thank you , butt3rf1y one thing you need to watch in packs is Xantham gum, unless you know that you are ok with oats and barley then I would say stay off Xantham gum or anything with Xantham gum in it as it is a process gum made from either with oats sugar or barley.Suggestion is to investigate a few items like cereals cakes crackers and loaf .I have you d the only loaf that has no Xanthan gum is Warburton's GF light loaf it is a very small loaf taste like bread but it does smell slightly not too sure why. On the whole it is ok.

We found in Costco they had coconut snacks x2 different type of coconut snacks they taste amazing and sweet potato crackers as well great for snacking. Haha yeh really bad ..but it is really it is the only thing I can have at the moment until I make any cookies or cakes .

I have trialled quite a few GF cakes and they have turned out fab Best one is GF Japanese Chiffon cakes. So delicious even my hubby loves them and could not tell the difference.

So give them a try experiment them see which one works for you .

Hi KnitSewPurl

I was just reading through the Coeliac website and saw the following statement and remembered reading your post yesterday.

coeliac.org.uk/information-...

"Some people can’t tolerate oats as they contain a protein called avenin."

Statement on a linked page

"Avenin

The protein in oats that is similar to gluten."

Hope this is useful.

Best Wishes

Jennifer
