Hi, if having lupus is hindering or preventing your activities of daily living/mobility then you can apply for adult disability payment (Scotland) or PIP. If you're successful with your claim this can lead onto further benefits such as the blue badge scheme, cheaper rail travel, cinema entry. It all depends on the score you receive

Thank you for your help ☺️🌈

Hi. If successful you can claim for a council tax rebate and car tax discount, which I've just found out about! I got my council tax back dated 6 years and car tax 2 years 👍 Unless you get enough points for a car then the car tax is free.I wasn't aware about the cinema entry x

Hi, I did apply for council tax but was informed that I couldn't get it. The cinema card is called a CEA card. Basically if entitles you to free admission for the person with you so it ends up between you you're only paying one admission instead of two

Thanks for that x

Also regarding council tax you have to prove you have a bathroom for your sole use. They ask you to send pics of any aids you use etc. X

I'm in a bungalow which only has one bathroom or I should say shower room. We took out the bath as it's much easier for me to shower 🌹

Oh right, just a thought x

I have been wondering the same too, because it’s been a struggle to work now even though I work 2 days , I really need the help

Phone jobcentre and enquire about your current situation and how they can help💕

it’s more about how having lupus affects you on a daily basis - for me, I have lupus and rheumatoid arthritis I had to stop work. I was self employed and it broke my heart I had built up such an amazing clientele but it was making me incredibly unwell (I was standing all day I was a photographer)

I am now claiming PIP, limited capability to work it’s nowhere near what I was earning but it definitely helps and I’m slowing getting used to my new life xo

May I ask is limited capability to work a benefit? Or do you mean you claim pip as you have limited capability to work? I've no idea about the benefit system but my occupational therapist keeps telling me I'm entitled even though I work x

Phone jobcentre and see what they have to say, they will answer your question better👍

Sorry to hear you had to give up work, it's hard. I too was self employed - working in gallery education & my own art practice incl photography had to stop work, in days before ESA and only the same as unemployment, now jobseekers, which when you need extra heating and stuff is difficult. I have since moved to Employment & Support allowance and migrated from work related activities to support group. I have done some work, the job centre (someone specialising in disability etc) was very helpful - some extra forms to fill in, but was able to take a commission.

I've never applied for PIP.

just read that back and realised I didn’t make it very clear!

Limited capability to work is the disability element of universal credit also known as ESA on the old benefit system

PIP is not means tested so yes you can work as long as your type of work doesn’t contradict what you’ve said you can /can’t do to PIP.

Hope I’ve helped x

Of course you can. My advice would be to pay for Benefits and Work. It will cost you £20 for the year but it has been invaluable for me. You can get ESA if you are unable to work through your illness and claim PIP to help you with costs associated with issues pertaining to the care you need or the help you need with travelling etc. You can get a Blue Badge from your Local Authority if your walking is impeded by pain or fatigue. Normally they require you to be in receipt of PIP ( mobility component) prior to applying but if you are struggling your GP can complete a supporting letter given that PIP waiting times and assessments can be a long process. There is also a lanyard scheme with the sunflower logo if you require extra help in shops. Good luck with everything xx
