hi, I’m new here but I was diagnosed in 2007. First question is.

1. As a black African … does anyone have recommendations on lotions to use other than sun screen during summer. My skin is awfully affected by the sun.

2. I take mycophenolate mofetil 500 mg and I’m at the stage where I’m planning on getting pregnant in a few years time. I know the drug I’m currently on isn’t good during pregnancy so in that case will have to change it at some point. Just wanted to know anyone’s story and how the process went for them and is there anything suggestions in going about it.

hi lovely _29, I am of asian mix origin , so my skin does tan/ burn easily. I was diagnosed since 2009/2010. I take hydroxycloroquine.

During the summer or traveling to sunny climate I use factor 50 + non greasy . it is a french brand . comes only in a small bottle . it does not burn my skin like most suncream does .

I will check the name and let you know. worth while checking out pass history on suncream there is one written about it .

Hi.

Try avaestell.com they have a gorgeous summer cream. Also their magic cream is great for rashes.

If you sign up, they send discounts and offers. I've never paid full price.

Hope this helps, Sarah

Hi Lovely_29

Welcome to the LUPUS UK HealthUnlocked forum! In case it’s of any use, we have a free information pack for new members, which includes information on lupus as well as LUPUS UK as an organisation, how we work and what we do. You can request it here: lupusuk.org.uk/request-info...

The NHS rules around suncreens on prescription have recently changed, unfortunately, and currently the only SPFs that seem to be available to lupus patients on prescription are:

• Uvistat Sun Cream SPF 30

• Uvistat Sun Cream SPF 50

• Uvistat Lipscreen SPF 50

A recommended SPF from a dermatologist for people with lupus is La Roche Posay Anthelios 50 and is available at places like Boots and Superdrug.

We also have some SPFs recommended by lupus patients in our blog article on lupus and light-sensitivity which you can read at lupusuk.org.uk/coping-with-...

Skin involvement is very common in lupus, and about 60% of people with lupus are photosensitive. Often people can think of this just being about a sensitivity to sunlight, but some people also find certain types of indoor lighting such as florescent tube lighting causes issues. You can find our booklet on lupus and the skin here: lupusuk.org.uk/wp-content/u...

We have a blog post on lupus and pregnancy, which includes some information about things like medication as well as lots of quotes from people about their own experiences: lupusuk.org.uk/lupus-and-pr...

Hopefully some of what I’ve linked will be useful or of interest to you, but feel free to get in touch if there’s anywhere I can signpost you towards. Hopefully some others in the forum will also be able to share their own experiences of lotions or pregnancy.

Best wishes

Debbie

hi Lovely _29, looks like Debbie Kinsey has replied to all your questions.

I used La Roche Posay Anthelios 50 there is 2 version of them you can get either in a tube or a bottle. both of them come in small quantity. just be warned and don't be surprised by the size as they are small but they do work and do help protect our skin. Yes, they are expensive but you don't really need much and it does last forever.
