Is it possible at all to lose any weight while on steroids I’m currently tapering from 50 mg I’m now at 6 mg ! My skin is an absolute mess patchy rashes all over my body which is itchy. I’m sticking with this as I’ve been up and down the doses I’m now focusing on reducing but I’m suffering ! Any tips for for anything to soothe my skin would be appreciated . Short version all started with a virus 2021 symptoms , lung inflammation, clots , hair loss , twitches all over , blurred vision, irregular heartbeat, broken skin and rashes all over

It IS possible to lose weight while taking steroids - I lost 35lbs at one point while still at well above 10mg. The best way to avoid weight gain and, if you have gained weight on pred, to lose it again is to cut carbohydrates drastically, Don't just go cold turkey, cut your carb intake by a quarter for a week or so, then another quarter and then another. Some people have to cut their carbs more than others to lose weight so it is a case of trial and error until you find a level where you are losing weight. It is because pred changes the way your body processes carbs and sugar.

Keeping a diary at first helps - because it is very easy to think you aren't eating much carbohydrate when in fact it hides all over the place! The place to start is processed carbs, baked goods, rice, pasta, potatoes and root veg and to limit fruit - lots of sugar in fruit - and added sugar.

Hi Sandrakee, I am also trying to taper down my steroids. Started of at 60mg. Presently on 7mg, like yourself my skin it highly itchy. I have a condition called Dermatomyositis. Auto Immune disease that affects both skin & muscles. For the extreme itchiness I use Dermavate or Eumovate. Both steroid creams. They help give relief from the intense itching that make you wish to scream. Finding Wright loss very difficult, but hopefully over time. I wish you the best of luck in your journey x

I’m starting to wonder if steroids can make some unfortunate symptoms worse .
