This is my first post so im sorry if this has been asked before, I am in my 50s and all my adult life I have had various ailments which have always tested negative : arthritis, allergies, nerve damage ,
I’ve had discoid eczema, LP , tests for bladder and kidney issues etc
I have an appointment with my GP next week to discuss whether she thinks i might have Lupus
To cut a long story short, my question is, if I do have Lupus would the arthritis, eczema and nerve tests be negative if it is Lupus?

It's difficult to answer the question you put, but there are lots of information leaflets to download on the "Home" page here (look on the right of the page) that may help. Here's the one that talks about typical symptoms and diagnosis.
Lupus/SLE is usually diagnosed when you have a raised ANA blood level along with other markers and sysmptoms. A positive dsDNA is a clincher. Either way, a GP is very unlikely to diagnose SLE without a specialist referral to rheumatology.
My advice would be to be really clear and specific about what you want from your GP consult, and make sure they have given you answers to the questions that are most troubling. And post here too, of course! x
Hi Whisperit, Thank you for the information, I will print off the leaflet, then I can go through it and mark off the symptoms I’ve had or have at the moment.
My GP is really good at referring if she thinks anything needs investigating so hopefully if she agrees with me she’ll refer me this week.
I’m worried that I’m making more out of what symptoms I have than I should be, although in the past various things I’ve been diagnosed with have been quite intense almost all have disappeared, the symptoms I have now are different which is why I’m not sure.
Do you have a positive ANA blood test result? If so this may be relevant for you.
I am in the US. In addition to the regular autoimmune blood panel, my new rhuemetologist ordered this particular NEW test for me. My insurance would not cover it but the manufacturer only charged me the $45 co-pay.
Hi, no I’ve not been tested yet, I’m heading to my GP this week and hoping she’ll refer me . I’m in the UK so I’m lucky that I don’t have to pay for treatment, hopefully this week the GP will look at my long term history and we can take it from there x
I wanted to say thank you to everyone for their support, ive now had blood tests dos SLE which have came back as negative so my gp is confident I don’t have Lupus which is great.
It looks like most of my symptoms are Menopause related so after 10 years of being menopausal I’ll be going on HRT to see if it helps x
