horizontal dents on fingernails

Hi all,

Thanks for all the information on this forum, it’s very helpful.

In the last couple of months I have noticed horizontal dents on my fingernails. I haven’t been to the doctors yet but I wondered if anyone here has experienced this too?

l heard it could be an iron deficiency or a zinc deficiency. I also have experienced a lot of hair loss recently too.

I had covid back in April 2020 which brought on a lot of other horrible symptoms - long covid- for many months after this. Some people have said these dents can be a cause of covid but that usually occurs a few weeks after covid. These have only recently occurred.

Next week I’m having a CT scan on my heart because the ultrasound scan showed a circulation issue so I was wondering if these dents have something to do with this. I’ve also heard the dents could be because of something more problematic.

Has anyone else experienced this?

my son had divots in all his fingernails and was told it was excema. It went away after treatment and never came back

I have horizontal dents in my finger nails, consultant said it was caused by psoriasis 🤷‍♀️ They do disappear as the nails grows but then re appears. I now also have lots of vertical lines too.

Not sure about the horizontal lines bit, but I know that autoimmune disease can affect nails and hair. It could be as simple as a zinc deficiency, but with everything else you have going on, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is related! You could always try supplements, or increasing the zinc in your diet, and see what happens…All the best with your heart scan, that must be playing on your mind a bit. Let us know how it goes. 🌈
