I do not see any red rashes on the hand but there again it may be my poor eyesight?👨🦯🧑🦯👩🦯
I would definitely let your GP know. I know they have been observing you for a while. A sun sensitive rash was actually what tipped the scales for me.
It’s the V of your hand where the sun hits, right? How long does the rash last?
Last time lasted about 2-3 weeksThis time it's been 3 days..started on Saturday..
Hi lufibabe. No one here can tell you if your rash is from the sun or a simple case of dermatitis. I think most autoimmune casesInvolve rashes and a dermatologist is the one who will help with that. You probably already know to take your pictures of rashes and document symptoms. For me, it wasn’t just all the skin rashes by themselves. Profound tiredness, hairloss,
Brain fog …… appeared at the same time. Not always; but mostly. My own dermatologist was very concerned and allowed me to run in for biopsies to help my diagnosis. She actually biopsied my scalp and indeed soon after everything began to be a yes. Another thought/ has anyone in your family been told that they are
“allergic to the sun”? Sun sensitivity can run in families. Titters
Do you mind sharing your age? I am asking because you mentioned joint pain and a diagnosis of arthritis on an earlier post. Did they mention what type of arthritis?
Hey hun,
Speaking from experience this is from the sun. I had it for YEARS before my Lupus diagnosis, literally from when I was in Secondary School & every GP would just say ‘use sun cream, its a sun allergy’ when actually it was Lupus. Like clockwork whenever the seasons change into Spring & sun starts coming out more I get this. Exactly the same place you have it. I have swollen lips, I get it anywhere the sun hits basically especially my face, my skin peels as well.
I have had to have tints put on my car due to how bad it gets.
I am waiting to see a dermatologist but once I start upping my dose of steroids & using a GP prescribed sun cream & antihistamine my symptoms ease. But I have to plan for it. For instance if I’m going on Holiday on Monday. A week before I will start taking antihistamine so its fully in my system before sun exposure.
I hope this helps xx
Hi, thanks so much for pointing out. I have been diagnosed with Lupus last September 2021! I had the same when I was in secondary school in Berlin everyone told me its the sun and they believed I had a sun allergy. I had those rushes between my fingers on the palm and red dots. After I have been diagnosed with Lupus late 2021 everything makes sense. I just want to thank you and all of you as it males sense now that my doctors say that I had Luous all my life and it broke out last year. Thank you all as I get a feeling that I did nothing wrong. This makes me feeling better a bit as I am still in the process of digesting all of that.
Thanks a lot have agreat day and I wish all of you the best!
Omg!! I get face rashes too..and yes my skin peels as well...I keep giving up..as the doctora keep saying its Fibro and once I was supposed to be sent to dermatologist however my GP said send me pictures which I did.
Sometimes they dont do justice..and am still waiting..Covid means I have no access..its so frustrating..
I need to have antihistamine everyday otherwise I end up sneezing and coughing...I am very sensitive to different allergens...so my immune system is haywire..but not really taken seriously
Thanks for the comments..I will keep trying
Lots of warm wishes.xx
lufibabe - I would separate out what symptoms respond to antihistamines and which don’t. Sneezing is most likely allergy and not lupus related. I know it is confusing. But if you bring that up to your doctors, they will dismiss it as far as autoimmune problems go. Your GP can recommend a good anti-histamine or get allergy testing if needed.
The rash on your hand appeared after sun exposure. There are other possibilities but I think that will be taken seriously by a dermatologist or rheumatologist. Certain other conditions are photosensitive like rosacea but that, I think, is on the face primarily.
What did the doctor say about your hair loss and nose ulcers? If they were typical of lupus, then you now may have another skin symptom with this rash.
Is it possible to see a dermatologist privately when you have that rash? If they chose to biopsy it, it could save you a lot of time and frustration in the future.
You are similar to me and I really feel for what you are going through. I was seen the day I got the sun induced rash. Different world years ago, right?
Thank you so much for your sound advice. I will see if I can be seen privately..Ib do have private insurance...why didnt I think of that? I love this group!!Hair loss- Anaemia, my iron leve;ls are fine now..but still experience this...I do have very thick hair...so its not that obvious...but i have noticed I have a gap on my front of the head recently.
Nose ulcer_ wasnt seen when visited the GP/Rheumy so was discarded
I have read here numerous times about how long it takes for a diagnosis...SO will try and be patient..
Yes, I have very similar rashes on my hands at the moment and a couple of lesions on my neck too where the skin is also exposed to sunlight. I am prescribed Mometasome Furoate ointment by my GP to calm the photosensitive rashes and lesions down and keep them under control. I use factor 50 spray by La Roche Posay if I spend any time outside also.
Hi thank you..
I use sun sense...but if I go to tropical places..it doesnt work..I cover up..wear sunglasses and a wide brimmed hat...that would help somewhat..where the skin is exposed.. voila..the rash comes..
Every fortnight or so I get severe allergy/flu like symptoms..can last a day or two...and I get completely finished and drained out..
I am tired of constantly telling my GP..appointments are hard to get..
Oh hun,
Its horrible. I have been fighting with my consultant to get face to face appointments for months it’s actually ridiculous!
Maybe you need a higher strength antihistamine. The ones I have are called Fexofenadine. Xx
They recently changed it so you can buy them over the counter x
I have started using driving gloves to see if they can help control the rashes.
