As I'm sure you're all aware the crisis/war in Ukraine has officially begun and they are being attacked from all sides, particularly from Belarus and taking sanctuary within the Chernobyl exclusion zone.
A few of you know that I myself lived in Eastern Ukraine, in the city of Dnipro, from 2018 - 2019, working in the military hospital and knowing full well the 2014 War had never really ended.
The towns and cities though are much like our own, vast bridges across rivers, promenades, idyllic beaches, party boats, bars, club's, music, nightlife. Ukrainians love their home, they love their family, and indeed they love life. They live in the moment, and don't let the woes of tomorrow disrupt the joys of today. They are warm friendly wonderful people, albeit their humour is slightly odd. They love to learn, develop, grow.
Russian leaders, their elite, backward individuals seek to take Ukraine, not because they are a threat, but they wish to squeeze the light out of a truly independent loving country. Russians themselves, have been brave enough to protest only to be imprisoned as well.
Both civilians from both nations wish not to fight. Like most wars, it is the few elite that dictate the neccessity of war when peace ✌️ would otherwise prevail.
These are harmless children, mothers, daughters, sisters, brothers, all being harmed and shut in on all sides, holding each moment with their family as if it were their last. Taking pictures of the glorious sunrise of a day which is needlessly soaked in misery.
I pray for strength and mercy to prevail. Hopefully we as nation alongside those across the globe will not stand for this totally immoral abuse of power. May peace be restored in the here and now.
I sit here in Australia, a country without borders. I wonder what it would be like if New Zealand invaded us, or vice versa? It could never happen because we love and respect each other’s differences.
I buy my Amber Beads through wonderful Ukrainian/Polish people and my heart breaks for everyone caught up in this horrible invasion. May the Ukrainian people remain strong in their intent to be exactly who they are. May they feel the support of the rest of the world. May the Gods bless them all.
It is a tragic state of affairs. As always it’s the innocent who are affected and lose lives, be they civilians or military. I cannot imagine having to arm myself to defend my country and to see Russians themselves being arrested for their protests against it.
As Boy George once said War is Stupid 😞
I love this song you’ve shared. I’d love to know what they’re saying, it gave me a good feeling though and a hope for peace once again and an end to this unforgivable invasion.
It is truly sickening, horrifying and heartbreaking. The few make the rules for the many. Our media is ramping up the rhetoric, absolutely feverish with anticipation. Our Government makes idle threats all the while taking donations from Russian oligarchs. All it needs is for Europe to attack and we will face dreadful reprisals. The only way forward is peace talks to recommence. Those poor people and the people of Yemen, Palestine, who face this day in day out but the world does not care.
Great music! Great unity- exactly what’s needed. I feel the love and hope in their energy.
America is appalled and like minded people are rallying to the cause, believe me. There is a charity site already sending funds - that’s only one I know about- I’ve shared it around yesterday.
My husband and I watched NATO live last night as the general held the press conference outlying what was being done, and the clear objectives.
I also saw your ambassador to the USA give an interview with our major new outlet. I was extremely impressed your ambassador to the USA- she is very good at capturing the heart and soul and determination of the Ukrainian people and country.
She’s asking for help - with the kind of love and strength and dignity a mother has for a child.
She is proud ( as we all are! ) that the the Ukrainian people will defend their homes- Let’s go, NATO! War crimes cannot the tolerated a moment longer. You have a national treasure, this woman.
NATO have at times been silent in the recent disruptions in Ukraine over recent years so hopefully we will rally up and defend the peace and strength of a nation that isn't big enough to defend itself, albeit it has the resilience of a country 100x its size
