As I'm sure you're all aware the crisis/war in Ukraine has officially begun and they are being attacked from all sides, particularly from Belarus and taking sanctuary within the Chernobyl exclusion zone.
A few of you know that I myself lived in Eastern Ukraine, in the city of Dnipro, from 2018 - 2019, working in the military hospital and knowing full well the 2014 War had never really ended.
The towns and cities though are much like our own, vast bridges across rivers, promenades, idyllic beaches, party boats, bars, club's, music, nightlife. Ukrainians love their home, they love their family, and indeed they love life. They live in the moment, and don't let the woes of tomorrow disrupt the joys of today. They are warm friendly wonderful people, albeit their humour is slightly odd. They love to learn, develop, grow.
Russian leaders, their elite, backward individuals seek to take Ukraine, not because they are a threat, but they wish to squeeze the light out of a truly independent loving country. Russians themselves, have been brave enough to protest only to be imprisoned as well.
Both civilians from both nations wish not to fight. Like most wars, it is the few elite that dictate the neccessity of war when peace ✌️ would otherwise prevail.
These are harmless children, mothers, daughters, sisters, brothers, all being harmed and shut in on all sides, holding each moment with their family as if it were their last. Taking pictures of the glorious sunrise of a day which is needlessly soaked in misery.
I pray for strength and mercy to prevail. Hopefully we as nation alongside those across the globe will not stand for this totally immoral abuse of power. May peace be restored in the here and now.
A song from my favourite band in Moscow, Russia.
These are not people wishing for war, they have only joy and love in their hearts 💖
