Provisional Driving License

Hi,

I just brought my provisional driving licence online and under health condition/disability it does not mention Lupus as a health condition. Do I need to mention that I have Lupus? Because Lupus is not mentioned as one of their health conditions. For those who drive, did you mention it to the DVLA. I am based in the UK.

This is interesting, as the condition itself is not on there but some of the things this horrible condition can cause are, such as arthritis, palpitations etc.I suppose if you tell them about every little thing, at least then they can’t say that you haven’t!

Yes, with type 1 diabetes even if one says “well controlled diabetic condition “ with “hypoglycaemia awareness” one can still get a licence but only for max three years before another 10 page, intrusive medical fitness to drive form to complete.

It’s about dealing with the form positively before it gets to DVLA’s medical assessors.

You should mention it to your insurance company. They like to know these things for full disclosure but it has never affected my policy.

You only need to inform DVLA if your driving is impaired. I had to tell them about POTs and they wrote to my Dr but I didn't need to tell them about SLE according to the DVLA but I still did.

Following a back surgery, I had to update DVLA and I told them about my Lupus as I had not been diagnosed when I first started to drive. They then investigated my fitness to drive based on Lupus and ignored back surgery. It is better to have mentioned it to DvLA and your insurance company as the you are agreed to fit to drive. Don’t want anything voided for not telling them. I find Lupus is normally an other on medical lists

When you tell them, they will be supremely disinterested.

My wife has Lupus & I contacted dvla when she applied for her provisional licence & Lupus SLE are not required to be reported because the condition does not in itself impair driving but if it causes any of the conditions listed on the application form then that is what you need to inform them of so in a nutshell no you do not need to inform dvla you have Lupus
