My red cheeks...

Had to renew my driver’s licence and I thought I could use the picture I already had...nope. The woman said I need to get a new one. Just got off work (12hr shift) and my hair is a total mess. So I did it, and when she showed me last picture (what is on my driver’s licence for the last four years), and todays picture, my cheeks are so red! I am in a flare today. Had a hard time to breathe and am achy all over...and my face is full on rash. So embarrassed. She asked if I wanted to do it over but how would that change anything? There must be a way to cover up the redness?? A makeup or something??

Hey Willow7733 So sorry you're flaring!! I try to tell myself it brings out my eyes and gives me that post coital sexy look... Or that I just look like I've been on holiday... Sometimes I manage to make myself believe it!😜 But on the days when I feel self conscious I found this video helpful: youtu.be/u3ep968gWUU

Green primer is key!

Dear Willow7733,

There is Make Up, which can Cover Over 'Blemishes'- and 'Redness' etc quite well. This is, in all probability, going to be 'All You Need'- and advice, as to how to apply it, has been suggested already.

The next stage, which I doubt that you will ever need, is Camouflage Make up- used Medically to 'cover' Huge Unsightly Birthmarks- the type that can't be operated on. Either that or Severely Burnt/ Charred skin- I had an Uncle who was 'Hit' by an Anti- Tank Bomb, whilst in the War. (six months, or more, in the Hospital and then a 'lifetime' of Cover Up.) I think that, despite the injury, John was just 'Happy To Be alive- something I can definitely relate to!

Without being, in any way 'funny' with you, but, if these 'Flushes' happen often, might not this be the 'Norm' for you? If it is that you 'Vary In Colour', thought the day, then Yes The Make Up is a Good Option.

It might be 'Worth Your While' maybe, just mentioning this, to you own Medical Team, when you next see them- just in Case there is an 'Answer'.

I'm sending my Best Wishes, to you Willow

Thank you Andrew! Great advice. And I am sorry about your uncle (a true hero!). The butterfly rash is almost always there for me, but some days are worse than others. It gets really severe. I work in a hospital, first starting in the ER, and people can be so cruel with their words. I have had patients yell “ Omg! What happened to your face!” In front of many people. At the time, I wasn’t diagnosed and we weren’t in a pandemic (wearing masks), so I would stand there not really knowing how to answer. I honestly don’t know. People can be embarrassing. I think I am the only one at work very happy we are wearing masks these days. Today was a hard day at work and I was very tired. That always causes my rash to be bad. The photo looks awful, but my friend told me “what driver’s license photo doesn’t??” Which I guess is true. Lol

I have to say that if you work in the hospital it maybe the hospital lights aggravating the butterfly rash. I find the energy saving and strip lights in the hospitals and medical centres cause me to flare up equally as bad as the sun. I wear it everyday but literally slather 50+ sunscreen on before heading out to appointments as a couple of hours there and I’m flaring for a week. Outside we know to find shade but trying to sit not directly under hospital lights is almost impossible.

what a rubbish situation for you, I have to say that the best foundation to cover my redness has been Rosalique, available on line and cannot recommend it high enough

Clinique do an anti redness foundation. It works well hint of green but I would recommend it. Pricey but lasts

I went for my new driving licence photo today too. Same sort of thing. I just found some old (very!) make up to do a bit of touching up and hiding, was out for no longer than about 20 minutes then rushed back to wash it off. Horrible stuff when you're hot and itchy.

Google Red Cross skin camouflage make up.....lots of choices on there....or there is a product by Gatineau called Perfection Ultime ...it’s described as an eye contour cream but it’s great to cover broken veins.
