Hello! Have any of you got a dental implant? I was wondering if Lupus is an impediment in this respect.

Dental implant
Yes. And mine is a great success.
My Lupus is infant onset and has segued from relatively mild to officially ‘moderate’ (on long term daily hydroxy + pred + myco) .
Here’s my implant story:
In my late 50s I had an upper molar extracted due to a long standing highly complex issue (failed root canal that’d become chronically infected & given rise to osteomyelitis in jawbone - mainly due to my undiagnosed Primary Immunodeficiency Disease going untreated, but my lupus-related lymphopenia & low complements too). At that point, daily hydroxy was my only lupus med. and I had to be on long term (5 months) daily high dose flucloxacilin for the osteomyelitis.
Anyway, the implant process went very well, except for the discovery of my horrific jawbone infection. But, hurrah, the fluclox worked so surgery was avoided. In retrospect, am glad I was on the antibiotic while the implant was settling in (that’s a long process in its own right). And I would have another implant if necessary, but I’d be careful to remind my dentist & oral surgeon that am now on IV bisphosphonates for osteoporosis + the immunosuppression meds...so it’d be wise to talk about immunosuppressants & a prophylactic antibiotic regime etc etc
Hope something in there helps 🍀❤️🍀❤️Coco
Yes I’ve had I think 4 or 5 implants. Very successful - go for it.
Hi Ioana,
Yes, I have 3 but they were added about couple of years before my diagnosis though - I would say that you would have to be very specific and inform your dentist about your medication , especially if you take steroid and/or immunosuppressants . Sanatate multa!
