Happy Valentine's Day from Pumpkin

This is my soul mate, Pumpkin. He is my constant companion and gets me through my roughest days. He often knows something is going on with me before I do. He now shares his life with Gigi. He is not always sure of what this energetic, bigger sister is all about, but learned to adapt and accept her. People should learn from our furry kids.

Happy Valentine's Day and healing hugs.

Spanielmadlady, That is exactly what has happened. Pumpkin let Gigi know what he will tolerate in a firm, but nice way. If Gigi were not so much bigger and so energetic, I know Pumpkin would be willing to make more allowances. Unfortunately, Gigi does not realize that her actions can be a bit intimidating like when she throws her toys high up in the air. Pumpkin likes to watch from a safe distance. They understand social distancing quite well.

Isn't he adorable. I used to have a ginger long haired female cat. She was so beautiful and had a wonderful nature. She and my cockerpoo got on so very well and she would sit contentedly watching the pups antics. Sadly she died last year aged 19. They are amazing companions and I am so glad that Pumpkin proves to be just that. x

Thank you. Yes, I too remember each one. They are indeed such individuals. I still have her daughter, now 17. We got them from a shelter. They had been abandoned in the garden of a house when the family moved to France. They remained there for 6 months until saved. The shelter thought they'd be lifers as they were very hard to handle. It was only when I got them home did I realise the extent of the damage done to them. It took me a year to handle one of them as she had clearly been hit a lot. They ended up the most loving of creatures. Strangly, it was when I was playing my classical guitar that they started to come into the sitting room and to sit in the case. After that they started to come in more gradually. It still took a year of hard work but worth it. She's sitting now having her morning tickles but is frail. I do believe they have spirits too. Funnily enough, I was at a colleague's house one day, when I said - Oh, I didn't know you had a cat' as I saw one out of the corner of my eye walk across the room. They reply rather took me back, she had had one but it died a litttle while ago. Hum! Sometimes, I think perhaps I didn't see it - but there again I like to think I did as it is reassuring. xx

RosieA, Your story really touched me. When you mentioned the guitar, I am sure that was comforting and non- threatening to them. It is so hard to even think about people abusing them. I play piano when I can and Pumpkin comes and listens. Music can communicate without words and our fur babies understand that and so much more. The one you have now is obviously so precious. What you did for all of them was so loving and amazing. I like to think you saw your colleague's cat as well. It would make sense that her cat would sense that you were someone to be safe and make an appearance.

Oh, your reply made me smile. I hadn't thought of it that way - re the little spirit cat. It was strange - I was so pleased to see it (thinking it was living). My colleague was thrilled to think it was still visiting her. Our local vet plays classical music in the cattery - seemingly it lowers their heart rate. Healing hugs to you too. x
