I have the same problem regularly the burning around my private area and wondered if seeing a gynaecologist could help. I have been diagnosed with SLE and MS . I have being told it’s vaginal bacteria however this is so frustrating and embarrassing as it smells.

Once in awhile yellow thick discharge comes out I get antibiotics regularly. Can I get some feedback on this matter please??

Hi,

I would talk to your pharmacist to establish whether it is thrush, which can be a side effect if you are taking lots of medication and in particular antibiotics, or vaginal bacteria. They will have an over the counter remedy for both. Boots in particular has many options.

If is is thrush probiotic yogurts helps as well. Eating it but also applying plain yogurt to the vaginal area. It is a bit messy but works a treat.

I hope this helps.

Hi Jerg, poor you. I know how uncomfortable and embarrassing these things can be. I get terrible burning up inside. I have had it for years, smears are horrendous. I had a hysterectomy aged 40 ...19 years ago and reacted badly to HRT so they just stopped it. I get regular UTI’s too. Last year a Urology Nurse put me on Vagifem, a pessaries HRT and the difference was amazing. I am not sure how old you are or whether that might be an issue for you? I also get genital ulceration which is so painful. However I do not have a discharge or the smell. The fact that you do means you have a recurring infection I think. Maybe the antibiotic course is not long enough. Have they done a swab to identify the exact bacteria? I really hope that you can get some release from this xx

Thank you I did a swab and they claim it was clear so I am very frustrated. I had hysterectomy 8 years ago so I am at my wits end I am in my mid 50’s

Have you had any sort of HRT? If not, like me you could be suffering from vaginal atrophy. My Urology nurse explained that you have oestrogen cells in your urethra and if not lubricated they dry out causing burning and infection in addition to the vagina. It may be worth discussing this with your GP and asking for a moisturiser and Vagifem. It is so uncomfortable. I used to feel like someone had put Deep Heat in my groin. Xx

I suffered for years and only got relief after using the HRT pessaries. I really hope you get some help, it makes you so very uncomfortable I know xx
