Hi ladies and gents, the last 6 months I’ve been suffering nose blocked every nights. In March I had a dose of amoxicillin and a steroid nasal spray, which help a bit. But the last 6 months I’ve been having constant blocked nose at night especially. The only helping to unblocked my nose is the Sudafed sinus ease. I know I shouldn’t be using it for over 6 days, but it’s the only thing that help so far. Anyone here with lupus and had the same problem as me. I’m going to see my GP tomorrow and I’m going to asked to be referred to ENT bcos I’m getting worried. Thanks for reading. Take care and stay safe.x

I get sinusitis frequently and had surgery for a narrowed nasal meatus which didn't really help. My ENT consultant recommended I use a saline nose wash twice daily permanently. I use Sterimar. The one that is isotonic. You can get it cheapest from Amazon but Boots stock it. It helps unblock things a little. It won't treat infection but will hopefully help prevent it.

Hi Cathyan, thanks for the reply. I’ve been trying to use it too. When I used it clear it a little bit then it’s blocked again 🤦🏻‍♀️. Sleeping at night is a nightmare, it really disturb my sleep. And my nostril is so dry most of the time.

One more thing Cathyan, did the ENT said anything that it link with lupus?

No it's never been linked specifically. Obviously we are more prone to infections of any kind, that's the only link I've been aware of.

Just wondered have you tried nasal strips at all that stick on your nose and opens your nostrils? I get nasal scabs in my nose a lot which feels like my nose is blocked so wear them when sleeping and if really bad wear the see through ones in the day x

I use Sterimar saline nasal spray at least twice a day which helps . If my sinuses are really bad I steam 3 times a day and gargle with salt water, a warm face cloth over the face also gives a bit if relief. I would be interested to hear if your gp recommends any thing else . I can’t take decongestants because of other medications. Take care 😀

I’ve been using the Sterimar. It’s not that helpful. I find the Sudafed sinus ease helps more. It unblocked my nose. The Sterimar, it unblocked my nose just for a few minutes only. Then back to be blocked again.

Unfortunately i have no choice 🙄. I have been using this routine for years now . You could possibly have an allergy which is aggravating it as well? Good luck with the gp hope it’s helpful.

Yes, I think it’s an allergy that I got “allergic rhinitis”. I will get you guys an update tomorrow when I see my GP. Thank you all for your replies.x

Hello yes after suffering sinusitis for many years I asked to be referred to ENT who operated to widen all the sinus passage ways. it was described as turning B roads into motorways. It was not a pleasant experience it was a long uncomfortable recovery. It definitely helped as I do not get sinusitis or chest infections now but I still need to use a saline nasal irrigation system every day. Consultant did feel autoimmune issues could play apart. Interestingly he said most chest issues arise from nasal sinus problems.

Hi RAD120, thank you for your reply. My the constant nose blocked started this March. I had suffered from sinusitis in the past. But it always resolved after antibiotic and nasal spray. But this time it has gone away at all. I’m hoping it nothing serious that I won’t need surgery. So far I haven’t had any chest infection and I hope it stays like that for me. Again thank you.x

Coming in from a different angle - I was exactly the same as you 4 years ago, particularly at night. It was driving me crazy. I gave up gluten (not for that reason), however, a couple of months later I saw a huge improvement. To this day the improvement is the same.

Yes. Always congested. I take antihistamines twice a day, singular daily. I do a warm saline rinse every morning and apply a steroid nasal spray and Astelin (antihistamine) spray daily. Been doing this for 2 years now.

At first I thought it was from reflux but not really sure. CT sinus looks normal. ENT appt was not much more help. I have tried antibiotics when all of this started. It helped make my mucus clear instead of green/grey. Otherwise, nothing has been a slam dunk in regard to complete relief. The above routine keeps me open for the better part of the day until really late at night.

Hope you find relief soon! ❤️xx
