Lupus and Northistetone 5mg tablets

Hello all,

Maybe more aimed at ladies unless some gentlemen have knowledge of this medication?

Has anybody used this medication?

I have heavy periods and my GP prescribed this for me today virtually email consultation! On reading package leaflet in more detail it’s got a warning about DVT and people with Lupus at higher risk.

My GP knows I have Lupus and that I take Hydroxychloroquine . New medicine is a 10 day course while I await my appointment for bloods and also a hospital scan appointment, just wondered if anybody has taken it or thoughts?

Thanking you in advance ☺️

Hi, yes I have taken this. It was a god send for a short break in my bleeding cycle. I was very anaemic, very sore and like you waiting for tests.

I believe when these drugs are going through the testing stage, they have to put in any problem experienced as a contraindication. The risk is there but I made sure I looked out look signs of clots ie calf pain, redness, chest pain... . Its a short course and the risk is as real as the long list of other contraindications that I'm sure are on the packet! Good luck

Dear johare,

Thank you so much for taking time to reply.

I’m so sorry you have had a tough time as well it’s horrible isn’t it you feel you are only one going through it. I will continue on as I’m beyond exhausted and literally running on empty it feels like. I will look out for symptoms and continue with them hope they kick in soon!

Take care

Hi BeeHoneyB 🤗

I have taken this medication. It was to help me to stop bleeding during the menopause. It turns out that I had fibroids n was having very heavy painful periods..I too was anaemic.

However I didn't have a diagnosis of lupus at that time n I wasn't taking any lupus meds..this was just prior to that diagnosis so it was one of my symptoms but was treated separately.

I'm happy to say that the norhisterone stopped my periods..I took it for six months n I haven't had a periods for nearly three years!! 🎉🎉👍

I hope it helps u 🌈😽😽xx

Hi Krazykat26,

Thank you so much for taking time to reply.

It’s comforting to know others have had this medication and it’s also helped with periods. I’m feeling like I’m running on empty so probably anaemic as well I’m sure! I hope it works as quickly as it’s stated. No periods that would be bliss!! I just need a break to get back from running on empty. As if Lupus wasn’t challenging enough for us to navigate throw this in the mix!

Take care 🤗

U can get your GP to check if your anaemic..a full blood count will let them know how u r generally n if u have a low heamoglobin (I'm sure that's not spelt right..I hope u know what I mean) that indicates anaemia n your doc can put u on iron tablets..I was prescribed ferrous fumerate for quite some time..but now happy to say that I'm not on iron now!! If u do go down that route..be prepared though coz iron tablets turn your poo black!! 😳🌈😽😽Xx

Hi Krazykat26,

Think it’s a whole load of blood tests to be carried out earliest appt 10/11! She’s sent a prescription for those Iron tablets think she’s realised I must be and need some help prior to bloods! picked up today! Black poo 😆

Thank you for your advice 🤗

BeeHoneyB I am on hydroxychloroquine, sorry but don't have any experience of the drug you have been given. I am 53 and thank goodness the problems you are struggling with are behind me. After years and years of problems I found I had b 12 problems and thyroid problems. I now am treated for both. I did discover when I first started receiving the b 12 injections that the monthly problems were much improved. I found out that both these conditions can cause monthly problems. Many people who have lupus also have b 12 and thyroid problems I would ask for this to be checked. Another whole can of worms as the "normal levels" set for blood tests are far from ideal and everyone is different so can be tricky getting Drs to listen. Thyroid checks need to be full panel with antibodies another fight to have. Good luck.

You may want to make your GP or pharmacist aware of the contraindication and see if there is something else that could be prescribed.

Hi Krock1

Many thanks for your reply, and suggestion I may give the pharmacist a call tomorrow to discuss.

I’m going to continue for the time being on the medication as I think fingers crossed the tablets are working. But going forward if I am to take this medication long term, I need to ensure it doesn’t put my health in more danger.
