Daily suncream

Dreams2rememeber profile image

Morning,

Can anyone suggest a daily suncream that I can put on like a moisturiser.

At the moment I’m using the kids roll on Nivea one when I go out in the garden.

Still new to all this so any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

A moisturizer with sunscreen is not enough protection for you. My dermatologist recommends the Elta MD sunscreens - high quality, fragrance-free and zinc based. I use the « clear facial » one my face and love it.

Hope that helps! Happy gardening in the ☀️.

If it’s for your face I use L’Oréal revitalift day cream which has SPF 30 and then on top of that I use a foundation that has SPF 20 - if it’s for your body I use Ultrasun for sensitive skin either SPF 30 or 50 I find this is the only one that dosnt give me prickly heat which I used to get really badly - hope that helps x

I wonder if your « prickly heat » is a photo allergy to sunscreen. I had a problem with burning rashes that came with no other systemic symptoms. One dermatologist switched me to zinc-based sunscreen and they stopped occurring. My new dermatologist specializes in connective tissue disease and was the only doctor who knew that photo-allergy to sunscreen is part of the lupus photosensitivity continuum.

I wonder if all lupus, dermatomyositis and UCTD patients with photosensitivity should be told to wear zinc-based sunscreen. Just a thought.

Thankyou that is very interesting- I will definitely give it a try - can you buy it on line? Xx

I get it on Amazon. Elta MD has its own website too. Dermatologists advise against using moisturizers with sunscreen because they are not as effective. Let me know how you like Elta MD. I use the tinted sunscreen for my face too - doubles as make up. 😀

Thank you for the suggestions. I don’t really garden, I just need something for when I hang out the washing and play in the garden with the kids. I find the Nivea one is quite heavy and makes me feel all sweaty.

But also I’m getting scaring on my chest wear I get a sun rash and itch in my sleep.

It’s really an all over cream I want as I don’t wear make up.

I use Neutrogena Age Shield Face sunscreen (spf 110) for my face and Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-touch sunscreen for everywhere else (spf 100+). I found factor 50 stuff insufficient, and both have a lightweight non-oily feel. I would highly recommend them. They are a bit pricy though, but I feel like they’re worth the money.

Hope you find a solution that works really well for you x

Clinique does a factor 50 moisturiser that is really nice and doesn’t feel heavy, ive just had it in small tester pot so not sure its price .

I use Clinique face cream which is 40 spf and is £18 for 50ml tube, I have very sensitive skin and have tried a lot of creams. Also Ultrasun is also good for my sensitive skin.

I use Boots Soltan for sensitive skin factor 50 on my face. It's not too expensive and has an excellent UV star rating, which is important. On my body I use Altruist suncream which I buy from Amazon. It was actually developed by dermatologists. Hope that helps!

I find Altruist brilliant. They’ve just brought out a face fluid spf 50 too.

I've always uses SunSense ultra. It's an Australian cream I believe made for the crazy Australian sun.

Unfortunately, from all the sun creams I've used, none have proven to be non-greasy :(

Has anyone ever bought sun cream from.Amazon? Sunsense Ultra at my local chemist is £11 for a 125ml bottle. But on amazon I can buy a 500ml bottle for £23.

Actually we brought it from Amazon after you recommend it. We actually did the amazon pantry and got a discount.

Apparently though you can get it on prescription, but I thought I would see how it was first.

😁

I used to be able to get it on prescription but have been told the nhs no longer allow GP's to prescribe. But from what I can tell, some gp's are lenient. Some, like mine, not so much so.

And what is an amazon pantry?

I might build up the courage at some point 😅

It’s actually called subscribe and save sorry I think that was it’s old now.

Basically they give you 5% off if you sign up to their club and they hope that you will buy more in the future but you don’t have to. (So you can set up to buy it every 6 months for example).

It should give you this option when you go onto the item.

I hope that makes some sense. 🤣

Thank you. That sounds like a plan to save some money :-)

And build up courage for?

I’ve discovered Altruist. I have discoid lupus and RA and need to use an spf 50 all year round. They do an spf 50 face fluid which is great under makeup. It can only be bought on Amazon. They have a website if you need to research them firstbx

Hello. I have really sensitive skin and rosacea and I tolerate la Roche posay anthelios fluid really well on my face. It's really light, you can put make up on the top and doesn't cause break outs.
