My family and I are all well and staying safe. Hope you are too. It was my birthday last week and was so pleased that my niece could come for a visit πŸ˜€ Great excuse to make top hats! πŸ˜‚ I haven’t seen, or heard from, my GP since 28th February. I am doing ok though, (well no worse than normal), and know I can get in touch with my GP if needs be. Will only go in if I really have to. Don’t want to brave the bus just yet! Have been to the local Aldi and the pharmacy a few times as it is only a short walk away. Feel safer now as face coverings have been compulsory in Scotland since 10th July. Stay safe. Xx 🌈

Glad your all ok GE , like you, we've been a low covid case area but still subject to the restrictions!. It's good they can treat spikes locally now.

I've been out once a week and now had the courage to go into Our local Sainsbury's and boots for prescriptions!. It's lovely being a bit more normal and feeling safer although it's still a worry!. I'm glad you've done the same as it's important for mental health.

My GP has still done monthly catch up phone calls so I'm sorry you lost your 🌟GP . It's good though that you can make contact when you need to and you've done well not to need him for a long time now!. Hope that continues. Keep well and safe. Xx

Amazingly well thank you. A Rheumatologist who asked questions and listened to my answers, gave me encouragement and wants to work with me. I am still processing because we had a visitor today who has just left but this was the first time in many, many years that I feel hopeful xx

Thank you I am so shocked and delighted. He was interested in my journey and my quality of life and actually said I was doing amazingly given the issues I have. Unheard of in my experience.I actually became very tearful with pent up anxiety and relief. I told him that he was the first person who had actually listened to me in a long time xx

Well about time too! You are one of the bravest people I have come across - to have kept your head held high and not given up with all that you have been put through! Here's hoping it's a new chapter for you and you are on the road to better health soon. xx

CecilyParsley profile image
CecilyParsley in reply to Salzer

That is so very kind. I must admit I was prepared to tell him where to go, having decided I cannot go through yet another insulting and patronising consultation where my condition is blamed on my weight rather than the weight caused by my condition. He asked was I overweight and I told him honestly that I used to work ten hours get home cook dinner walk the dogs and have a social life. He said how long since that has been true? Eleven years. He said I think you are motivated and trying to help yourself but you need some help. I was waiting for the recommendation of Weight Watchers, Bariatric Surgery, not eating which I had had before but he actually said you need some help from us to make life bearable. Fibromyalgia on its own is bad enough but there is a lot more going on with you that is not clear on your notes. He had actually read about me. He talked of working together. It was overwhelming to be honest. I felt so stupid sniffing and snotty with an overwhelming gratitude. He was he said β€œ doing my job”. Please God he stays in out Health Board xx

This doctor clearly has a deep empathy for human beings and, in particular, what people with rheumatic illnesses go through.

In the end doctors cannot cure most serious illnesses. But they can heal hearts.

CecilyParsley profile image
CecilyParsley in reply to KayHimm

Exactly. I hate becoming emotional but he understood why which is amazing. When I asked why he was completing a depression inventory with me he said no one can have pain and discomfort that never goes away and feel happy. It grinds you down however well motivated you are.πŸ’‘πŸ’‘πŸ’‘πŸ’‘Xx

Hi cecily, this Rheumy sounds very like the new Gastro Consuktant I've just talked to who is willing to be a detective for me . He wants to sort out why I'm getting certain painful symptoms despite a diagnosis of colitis and being on anti-inflammatory medication!. He also wants to work with my Rheumy's. This has gone on for two years now !. It's wonderful he acknowledged how you've tried to help yourself despite so many difficulties!. I'm sure he admires your determination which is why he wants to help. I really do think these Consuktants should be cloned for everyone on this forum to have don't you?. Xx😊

CecilyParsley profile image
CecilyParsley in reply to misty14

Cloning would be great. I hope that your new Gastroenterologist continues to help you Misty. I once saw a wonderful Gastroenterologist who felt I had CREST but my then Rheumy told me that I should concentrate on what I have rather than what I may have.I hope my new one will never say something like that xx

misty14 profile image
misty14 in reply to CecilyParsley

Thanks cecily, he wants to do a camera test that hasn't been done in ten years that should give answers!. Rheumy's can certainly say some cruel things and you've had so much over the years!. I do hope this one will sort you out and suggest tests and treatment!. Did he say when he would phone again?. XxπŸ˜ŠπŸ’•πŸ˜Š

CecilyParsley profile image
CecilyParsley in reply to misty14

No he just said that he would see me in clinic when it was safe. I have had a camera down three times. All they found was bleeding thrush yet biopsies were negative for thrush. I have never had answers for my gut problems. I really hope you find what is causing yours they are so much more severe than mine xx

misty14 profile image
misty14 in reply to CecilyParsley

That might not be too long now cecily as its getting safer to go to hospital now!. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Thanks for your good wishes too. That's tough not getting answers to your gut problems. They usually say it's IBS if bowel clear and biopsies negative!.Is it still a problem now?. I had a diagnosis of colitis ten years ago so this test is to see if it's progressed and if my treatment needs changing!. Always glad when this is done!. Xx

CecilyParsley profile image
CecilyParsley in reply to misty14

I had a diagnosis of IBS at 18. They said I was too thin then lol. I learned to live with it. Then after my hysterectomy at 40 it returned with a vengeance. I started to get very bad acid reflux, alternated between diarrheoa and constipation.I put it down to grief, an end of my dreams to have a family. Then I started having difficulty swallowing and had to cut my food in tiny pieces. That subsided and I began to get the most awful gut pain that would make me unable to stand up straight. I had every test done, all negative. They thought it was gallbladder ,celiac’s disease. The only thing that found was pernicious anaemia. Then I began choking on my food. That is when they found what they thought was bleeding thrush but it was not.So no no answers. The Gastrologist thought I might have CREST but my Rheumatologist dismissed that. I go through periods of struggling badly with symptoms but I do not feel I have anything to gain by being referred again.I hope your tests go well. They are horrible but essential as you have colitis. Xxx

misty14 profile image
misty14 in reply to CecilyParsley

You've really been thru it haven't you cecily?. I'm really sorry you had to have a hysterectomy so early!. It's a lot you've had to come to terms with but you've done wonders wanting to help yourself!. I do hope this new Rheumy will be able to diagnose you better. Your swallowing probs coukd we'll be CREST!. Hope you hear from him soon. It's horrible waiting for these things isn't it?.

Keep well and safe and thank you for your good wishes. Xx😊

No more than anyone else I guess but after 8 years of fertility treatment and so many operations the Gynaecologist said enough is enough. I was at the time managing a children’s home for teenagers. It seemed too much to bare to return there so I took a demotion as a senior social worker to avoid it. I was severely depressed for such a long time, mainly because I have no family myself, they are all dead. My hubby grew up in care so no family there until the past two years that we managed to trace his siblings that were still alive. We were hoping to adopt but sadly I was just never well enough for them. It made me so angry that natural parents could behave so abusively and both myself and my husband had so much love to give and they refused us time and time again. We are very blessed to have one another and two beautiful dogs who we love to bits. I really hope this new Rheumy will help me find my smile again so that I can live and laugh rather than exist. My hubby deserves better .Thank you Misty for understanding and for your compassion, it means so much xxx

You've been thru so much cecily that I'm glad you gave yourself time to grieve!.I do feel angry too at times how easy it is for some couples to conceive and I've not had that chance and would have liked kids!. It's another tough aspect of our illnesses we have to deal with!. I hope this Rheumy is the turning point for both you and your husband!. Do keep us posted when you hear from him. Xx

Very true, they are a rarity here in Wales sadly. I can honestly say I have had only one good Rheumatologist in eleven years and even he was furious that I wanted a second opinion from the Lupus Unit and concluded in a letter that I was β€œ desperate to have Lupus”?.? Xx

The exercise sounds similar weathervane. I lie on my tummy and gently lift/stretch my lumbar part and go back down. I do it several times and it always gets me out of trouble.i learnt it thru Pilates!. I've got wear and tear in that lower part that must have got worse!. How about you?.
