Pinprick dots of blood, underneath my skin.

Hi , years ago when I was diagnosed with lupus, I had some pinprick dots on my arms. I also have vasculitis, and was told that was the cause. 15 years on and I have liver disease. At the consultation, the gastro dr said that these dots are a sign of advanced liver disease. I have thousands of them now, on my stomach and arms and legs. They are not spider naevi. I also follow HU liver site and asked if anyone else has them. Only 1 member does. So do any other lupus members have these, and know their cause? They don't itch or bother me at all, I'm just keen to know if it's vasculitis, or liver.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Lisa6161

These pin prick red dots of blood are the very same thing that sent me to the doctor in 2015 , he ran a few blood tests , and the start of my ruematology appointments began . They said in my case the were small blood cell leaks , they don’t go when you put a glass over them , hence my speed at getting an urgent appointment with my GP .

Said vasculitis problem .

Thanks willow. Yes that's my conclusion. Was told it in 2005. I knew the gastro dr was wrong. Back then I didn't have many spots, and a skin dr was the one to start me on HXQ. Will definately show rheumy at next appt. I don't usually mention them, but I have so many now, maybe they should know.

Thanks again willow x

Hi Lisa.

I have them as well and mine are due to the Vasculitis and definitely not the liver. I have blood tests every 3 months because of the meds I'm on and it always includes the LFT and this one is always normal. No infections and no parasites either.

I also have 3 monthly appointments with my Dermatologist and he said it's the Vasculitis and nothing to worry about.

You should speak with your own consultant and see what they have to say about it and to put your mind at ease.

X

Thanks Boudicca I was only worried that gastro said advanced liver disease. I kinda knew it was vasculitis activity, but thought I would see if other members had it, on HU liver site, and they didn't. I take all the necessary meds so I don't need any intervention. I will show rheumy next appt, as I have hundreds if not thousands of them now. Thanks very much for your reply, is very helpful.

I have at least 5 on my stomach and have pain around my liver, I was told told I had a fatty liver 12 years ago.

Do yours look like cherry aginomas ?

Sorry no they don't. I couldn't possibly count mine as so many. I know it's vasculitis, and doubted the liver. That's why I posted on here to confirm. I do have liver pain at times, and it's more of a nagging pain, rather than extreme pain. Whenever I have an ultra sound on my liver, it is always uncomfortable. Once, the radiographer, said there are no nerves on the liver, so it shouldn't hurt. She said however, many other US liver patients, complain too. I replied, that we can't all be wrong then!

Anyway thanks for reply.

Stay safe

I get them too. I guess from small vessel vasculitis? They are all over my body. Look like petechia. Started around the time I was diagnosed with lupus. I have cherry angioma looking things but they are red. The tiny dots are a bit darker like red/purple. None of my docs care about them since my platelets are always normal. Never had liver problems aside from bad reaction to Azathioprine. 🤷‍♀️

Thanks jmiller, I'm not worried about them at all. I was diagnosed with vasculitis before lupus too. Because I have altered bloods and liver probs, I thought I would ask. Thanks again.
