Who Stole all the Nuts?

This is one of the squirrel visitors and is bolder than the rest which is how I got so close. I left a small apple for him and he carried it off whole and ran along the top of the fence with it. Unfortunately, he had to tip his head right back to carry the apple and couldn't see where he was going. It was very funny watching him bumping into all the fence posts along the way!

When we lived in the house with the nature garden and squirrels, there was one with an injured front leg.

We noticed him and made sure he got extra nuts. He became quite bold/less skittish.

He used to load so many nuts in his mouth we felt he couldn't move. He did but would often drop some on his escape.

I love watching squirrel antics.

I hav a running battle with squirrels, they ,over the years have broken expensive squirrel proof feeders, stole fat ball feeders, have generally wrecked everything.

I recently bought a new feeding station.between the rooks, crows and squirrels the old had snapped at the base.

It had a pretty fat ball holder ,pear shaped.it clipped on.

It lasted 1 night, gone the next morning.

There’s a nice seed feeder shaped like a house,I haven’t dared put it out yet.

Husband says, just put it out,it’s going to be stolen anyway.

I bought a squirrel feeder,it sat on the fence full of nuts. They never looked at it.

That sounds about right. I lost a couple of the wire-type feeders to squirrels as they gnawed right through the wire. Now my bird feeders are all in cages except for the one that squirrel in the photo is sitting on, which I bought for them. That one is heavy-duty, made from a metal tube with holes punched in it and with a heavy base that clips in with a spring mechanism. It has lasted for years and the squirrels have not been able to damage it at all.

Love it!! And the story..! Hah :). I remember a time at my ma's home many years ago now, when one of the squirrels was getting extremely upset about something.. running backwards and forwards on the top of the fences making that strange sound (very loud!)... this went on for ages.. maybe it was a cat prowling around.. but the squirrel must have been exhausted by the end! Thanks for this and hope you having a good day! x

I know the noise you mean. If you crossed a dog with a demented duck it'd be about right! The squirrels are always having arguments round here, especially if a magpie dares to land in their tree!

I bought 2 of the cage type feeders couple of years ago.

Went ok for a while, then my husband said look.

Th cat was sitting at the bottom of the feeding station ,looking up.

There was a squirrel wrapped around the base of the cage, spinning at a furious rate, after a few minutes squirrel, base and nuts fell to the floor. Luckily cat had run off at this point.

When we tried to reassemble the feeder,we discovered that the thread was ruined.

Now. I buy th cheapest feeders available, replace them when necessary.

My current fat ball feeder is hanging on by a thread, attached with a bit of clothes linesquirrels drive me mad,but at least watching them is a break from TV at present.

My cat pretends that the squirrels don't exist, unless they are the other side of a window- coward!
