Does anyone know how to get priority deliveries I am at my wits end. Its not even for me although I have been sent a letter about staying at home. I can't get one either but it's for my dad who is 79 and cannot get a delivery slot. He doesn't qualify to be on the vulnerable list as I've tried to register him but in the end I did it by saying his GP has asked him to shield. But I don't know what to do after that. We called his doctor to help and he says he's not getting involved!? My dad had a stroke 2 years ago can barely walk and only the use of his right arm he has diabetes controlled by tablets and high BP. He lives in assisted housing and they won't let anyone up to his flat because of the virus. He cannot get a delivery so how is he supposed to gey shopping. This is stressing me out. My sister is working full time and tries to get him bits but she should also be shielded. Please help as I'm sick with worry that my dad can't get any food. The carers say they can't do shopping for him and only come in and help him shower and give his meds. This is really stressful.

I assume he has never had online shopping before? This might be your issue as the huge volume of people who panic opened accounts has meant even regular customers like me have struggled
Supermarkets have opened slots for people who are shielded as they have that list from the government and I am managing to get a Sainsbury’s delivery but only after lots of redialling to get through.
we have a similar issue with my mother in law she’s not on that list but over 70 and told to stay home if you call Sainsbury’s vulnerable help line 0800 052 5500 and explain the situation they are quite sympathetic or my sister in law did the same and registered my MIL for a Tesco delivery you get a morning or afternoon slot rather than an hour but better than nothing. I wouldn’t even bother with Ocado I’m an existing customer, on government list and still can’t get a slot they have been worse than useless
Also try registering with local authority or some of the local groups that are helping out A Facebook search of local groups is easy or are any local fruit and veg shops etc doing boxes my colleague has been using those
M&S are doing food boxes but doesn’t get over milk and bread issue as mainly tinned/packet goods, they do fruit boxes as well

Thank you for responding but he always had online deliveries with tesco and asda but I am going to try and get through to them to see what can be done as I'm so upset.
I would recommend Asda. I registered on the government website and two weeks later they emailed me to offer priority slots. The best bit and the reason I will be sticking with them is they give you the option to make it a regular slot. I do have to wait over two weeks for the first delivery but I now have a weekly slot every week until October.

Asda have been very good here too so try talking to them. Sainsbury’s actually gave me priority slots before the government started their list. I live in sheltered housing so that may be why. Sainsburys emailed yesterday to say they have started phone line ordering for priority customers who can’t use online. Morrison’s also do phone line ordering for basics. Sainsbury’s release their priority slots at different times during the day. I caught one lot in my area just being released at just after 5 o’clock in the afternoon.
Your father is entitled to get the care he needs including the provision of food. So they have no right to stop him having food deliveries if that’s what he needs, how crazy is that?
You could also phone the council about getting him food as it’s an urgent need. They might be set up for this as a Coronavirus need or talk to social services. or you may also have a covid-19 Facebook group for his area and people there may be able to help.
There is also a registration link on nhs site on their Coronavirus page. Register as needing shielding as vulnerable and it asks if you have urgent need of food or care at the end. Just say yes when it asks if you have an illness which makes you vulnerable.
Ocado seem to just be using the vulnerable as advertising. They say in their messages that they support shielded existing customers. But won't put me on their priority list. So seems to me they are using it to brand that they are caring, but they are clearly not being entirely honest as far as I can tell.
Call your local authority who should be able to coordinate something. However, even people who have been online shopping with a company for years and are now registered as vulnerable can't get slots easily and when they do half the things don't arrive.

In the interim, while you contact the supermarkets, Google Covid-19 Mutual Aid. There should be groups set up all across the UK and someone should be able to help him by going shopping for him. They SHOULD NOT ask for a fee for this, it is a voluntary scheme.
Secondly, phone his local council who can coordinate a volunteer to go shopping for him if the covid mutal aid scheme is not available in his area, although it should be. The council can arrange an emergency food box to be delivered.
Hi Tre123, some helpful suggestions here which should point you in the right direction. So not nice for you to have this stress over your dad’s situation. Your dad is over 70 so he should be in the shielded category anyway. It looks like he has other health conditions that would make him in the extremely vulnerable group that should be shielding too. Ask your GP or Practice Manager to send a letter to your dad stating that he should be shielded and by your GP generating this letter, your dad’s info will be shared with NHS Digital who inform the supermarkets regarding your dad being shielded. The supermarkets will recognise him as a shielded person and should offer him priority delivery slots once you register his name address etc on a supermarket website that you would like to receive home deliveries from. There is quite a bit of admin to go through, but hopefully taking the steps above, you will get there.
This doesn't apply to Ocado (whatever they claim on the website). But Tescos is doing this effectively. So if you are shielded (like me) register at Tescos and then on the government website and you will be able to get deliveries. (It may mean being awake at midnight when they release more slots).
Try all your supermarkets to get slot, I ended up with Tesco & morrisons, closest to me, which isn't close..
Also, as suggested already, contact the council for help & advice as they are coordinating with local voluntary organisations & volunteers, in addition to have food boxes...also listing small local shops that are delivering now or pick-up by volunteers.....

So sorry to read this Tre123 - just awful. The GP should know that your Dad is highly vulnerable and needs support, at least advising you were to get it for him. At some point I would call the practice manager and discuss in no uncertain terms. I hope you get some joy with the suggestions on here. Council's are generally all geared up now - it's just getting through, and I presume you dad is under Adult Social Care? He really needs an assessment or review by them asap, as this sort of thing really should never happen but I am sure they are flooded with calls similar to this situation and will be doing their very best to get things sorted. His package of care is obviously just for personal care and meds and the care agency or whatever can't stray from that as it's a contract thing. I was in Social Work so very well aware of all this sort of thing. My brother has parkinsons and his privately funded cleaners are leaving his shopping outside the door for him. His hands are shakey and he's weak but he can manage to make simple food and heat up the meals they make him to reheat. Does your dad need support with that too anyway? Is there Age UK in his area? They have a crisis line but see what Adult Social Care say ie the Council as they will know about him and his vulnerability/help you with it. I would contact them even if you do get joy through another source, as this is going to be going on for a long time and they need to be made aware of anything else he might be struggling with. I'm a bit late on here so hopefully you have had some sort of breakthrough today for your dad. I truly hope so. We will all look forward to hearing the outcomes. All the very best. I usually shop on line with Tesco and since this virus I’ve been struggling to get a slot so I found a telephone for Tesco and rang and said I had health problem had to use a tri walker and was 80 and the lady I spoke to said you qualify to go n our priority list it says it takes 48 hours and then when you go on line there’s a part saying priority press the button and up comes priority slots there not available for you to pick and choose but I’ve been able to get two slots a fortnight apart so have ordered in enough to last me for that amount of time and when my next one comes I will go in and order up another slot but at the moment it’s working fine for me so I’m sure they would put your father on the list keep safe
I got my letter about 3 weeks ago and after sending back a few texts I was told it would be sent to supermarkets. 2 weeks later I called Tesco to inform them that two items were missing from my shopping and asked the girl if I was on the list. She checked it and said yes, she pinged me on her computer. Next day I checked and true enough there is a different slot for priority and got another slot, but it was 3 weeks away. Luckily I doubled up on a lot of items.unfortunately I just had to keep trying at different times of the day as they put them on very randomly. It’s a bit of a relief to get the next slot. I did find when trying the first few times that going for the hourly slot was slightly better but was a bit dearer. My last slot was a 21.00-22.00 slot. They were the only ones that had slots in them. Best wishes
Unfortunately Tesco have changed their website. I had managed previously to log on at midnight and after half an hour get a slot but last night I queued for over 2 hours to no avail. I will set the alarm for tonight and see if it’s any better. I too am in the shield category and don’t know what I will do if I can’t get a slot. Good luck xx
Hi if you go to- government website register vulnerable people - you can do it there as i have done it for my mother. I filled it in and after a few days i had a phone call regarding a food parcel which was delivered the following day. I also had emails off Tesco , Asda and Iceland all offering priority deliveries. I ordered off Tesco and got it the following day with lots of slots available. All the best Dave
Oh your poor Dad. I have to say my carer is shielding on her GP’s advice and now the Local Authority say they will not pay her because she needs a letter from her GP. When she rang the GP he said you don’t qualify for a letter so she has lost six weeks pay. Like with your Dad he said not his problem?? How callous and negligent. Have you rang local supermarkets? If you cannot get through try their Facebook pages. There might also be local businesses that deliver. We are having meat for my husband delivered plus fresh fruit and veg. Please let us know if you manage to get him a delivery. The only other thing you can do is place an order with a company such as Wiltshire Farm Foods who supply ready made meals for the freezer. Or you could contact the manager of the supported housing he is in and ask if they know of any volunteers locally who can help him. Good luck xx
I wrote to my MP whose assistant sorted it for me with Waitrose. My GP service were uneducated about it and most unhelpful but yours might be better.
Is there a local FB page for the area he lives in? There are many local volunteer support groups that would help. Mutual Aid is a government supported one which has hubs all over the country. Also Age UK are very helpful. Good luck.
Hi, my daughter has received today a food parcel as she has a vulnerable person living with her( my granddaughter is the vulnerable one). There was a note attached saying this will be a weekly delivery. Maybe try your local council, or age uk. There surely has be someone out there to help your poor dad. Hope you find someone. If you google ‘ in my area’ there is lots of info about vulnerability and deliveries. Sorry can’t be more helpful.
