Coping with Isolation

I’m normally a social girl

I love to meet my mates

But lately with this pandemic

We can’t go out our gates.

You see we are the ‘oldies’ now

We need to stay inside

If they haven’t seen us for a while

They’ll think we’ve upped and died!

We may seem sweet old ladies

Who would never be uncouth

But we grew up in the 60s!

If they only knew the truth!

There was sex and drugs and rock n’roll

The pill and miniskirts

We smoked, we drank, we partied

And were quite outrageous flirts!

Then we settled down, got married

And because our lives fulfilled us

We adjusted to the change of pace

But never expected this virus!

I console myself with chocolate

And drink to recovery and health

And hope this evil virus

Doesn’t decimate our wealth.

We’ll all get through this crisis

And be back to join our mates

Just hoping I’m not far too wide

To get through my garden gate!

Wishing you all love and peace during this lockdown period. We’ll get through it together. 🤗😘🙏🏻💐

This was actually my original poem called Let's All Drink to Lockdown before it was changed. To see lots more please visit Jan Beaumont Poetry on Facebook.

It is brilliant Jan.👍🏻👍🏻 I grew up just south of Brisbane in the 60s so related to the poem very well. 😉 Thanks for the humour! Much needed in these strange times.

I don’t do Facebook because of having had a stalker, so unfortunately I can’t see more of your work. ☹️ You should post some! Take care.

Sorry just noticed you’d told weathervane you live in NZ. Oh well, that’s misinformation for you. I was told a lady in Oz wrote it. People never get things right - Chinese whispers. Sorry for any offence. Definitely not intended. Take care Jan. 🤗😘

I was sent that by a friend apparently a lady in Australia wrote it , I posted on our family WhatsApp group and they loved it but thought I wrote it . I had to come back quickly and put them right , i wish i had the talent 🤣🤣

Spotty-ewe in reply toweathervane

Me too. You won’t have got the same as I posted because I have altered it and left a few verses out that I thought weren't appropriate. I also added the party piece. Yes it came to me from family in Australia. I grew up there. Glad you liked it again.

That’s a great idea JT. 👏🏻👏🏻 Do you think we should put up a post asking others to include their favourite short poem or limerick to make us smile? It was your idea so do you want to post it? Keep safe JT.🤗😘

stiff19 in reply toSpotty-ewe

😂😂 thats a RIPPER 👍

Yes later, can’t at mo HOME and AWAY, can’t mix with NEIGHBOURS 🙈🤷‍♀️😂😂😂.

Yes some kiwi slang I picked up in NZ and it’s stuck with me 😂 but I left part of my heart there too 😍

Bonsai 😂😂🤗x

😂😂😂 Right mate. What a stupid galah I am. Forgot the lockdown. But before long, she’ll be right, and we’ll get together then.👍🏻👍🏻

That must have been great being in NZ. We saw them as rivals when I grew up in Oz, hopefully changed days now. Scottish scenery I’m told is similar to much of NZ so you'll need to come for the barbie just as soon as you can and see what you think. 😉 Take care Stiff.🤗😘 x

Hey Spotty-ewe do you ever get people asking you if you knew their relative, because the relatives live in Australia ?

Spotty-ewe profile image
Spotty-ewe in reply tojust-typing

Hi JT,

Yes, I was 15 when we came back to UK after living in Oz For 11 years. Firstly hardly anybody could understand me (long before the days of Neighboours and Home and Away) and secondly although I grew up 20 miles south of Brisbane I was continually asked by my new school mates if I knew their uncle, cousin or somebody else living in Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide?? At least they were young and daft and I don’t remember mature adults asking me such silly questions. As I pointed out to them it was like asking them if they knew somebody living in Italy or Russia!!

Why do you ask, have you had dopey questions like that asked of you?

just-typing profile image
just-typing in reply toSpotty-ewe

No I haven't had dopey questions, 😁 I have always lived in the UK. I have asked a dopey question. I have an uncle in Australia (Don't know if he is still alive) when I met an Ausie about 10 years ago (I was then a young lad in my 50's 😂) I actually asked if they knew my uncle 🙄 it was only after talking with the person I asked was when I realized it was an absolute ridiculous question.

Do you know my uncle? 🤔😂

Spotty-ewe profile image
Spotty-ewe in reply tojust-typing

Oh dear, I’ve well and truly put my foot in it now. 🤦‍♀️ Sorry JT I didn’t mean to be offensive.😬🤐

Of course I know your Uncle. He was the cobber with the pet roo who lived by Dingo Creek wasn’t he? 🤷‍♀️ He used to chase me and my best mate when we went exploring the bush at the back of his place.😂😂

We must be a similar age. You weren’t at my school and asked me that question back in the 70s were you?😂😂

Have a great day JT. Sorry the poetry post didn’t take off. But it was a brilliant idea! 👏🏻👏🏻

You haven't upset me.Spotty-ewe

I have never been to Australia, I wish I could cope with heights. We would have gone over there a long time ago. I am glad you knew my uncle. Did he mention my name? 😂😂😂😂😂. Didn't matter about the poems. Good try tho.

Spotty-ewe profile image
Spotty-ewe in reply tojust-typing

Pity you never went by sea to Oz in the days when sea travel was cheaper than flying. ☹️ I suppose you’d have been too young a laddie then.

No your Uncle never mentioned your name he was too busy chasing us off his land. But he did say he’d tell his nephew to type up a report on our behaviour ! 😉

👍👍🙌🏻😂😂 , yes 😍 not seen much of the world really , especially in my doorstep like Scotland 🤷‍♀️ Crazy ain’t it 🤔 yes I’ve heard that too 👍
