This is a very interesting article. It was reported on our news tonight that there was a randomized study with hydroxychloroquine in China. Interestingly the reason they did this trial in the first place was because they realized in families where Covid-19 was affecting whole families, if there was a family member with an autoimmune disease on hydroxychloroquine, they weren’t being affected. So they did a randomized study of 64 people where half were given placebo and half hydroxy, the half on hydroxychloroquine fevers broke a day early, they were recovering from pneumonia 30% quicker and of the 4 people who died in the study, they were all on placebo. More and more is being discovered every day. It’s the cytokine storms that are killing patients and there are other lupus and arthritis drugs that are helping them. I do hope it doesn’t cause a shortage for you over there. Here it is but hopefully that will be remedied soon. The good news is hydroxychloroquine has a half life of about 25 days and stays in your system for 3 months or more after stopping it, so even if we miss some doses we should be fine. They are doing all of our rheumatology consultations over the phone now here, as they don’t want us to come in. I hope you all stay safe and take good care. XO Nan

Hi Nan,

Thanks for your description of the Chinese study very interesting! Unfortunately, here in the U.S. are experiencing shortages of hydroxy, apparently due to some lax prescription-writing on the part of some health professionals. I am concerned for those of us who have autoimmune diseases. I myself am lucky to have enough hydroxy for a few months. I hope that the global supplies of these drugs are replenished soon.

I saw a video which has now been removed that showed how Covid gets in to the immune system making it harder for the body to fight the infection. It then showed how secondary infection from bacteria can be fatal as the immune system is too weak to fight them. Maybe a greater understanding of the immune system may be a positive of the pandemic.

Video made me realise whatever risk level doctors gave me I would shield as I suspect an already badly wired immune system plus viral induced crazy immune system don’t make a healthy one.
