Ocado does let you. I have done exactly that with Ocado. I have a delivery for 23March, 31March and 7April all booked. I am booking one slot a week as the week opens up.
I've just been thinking this.. Went to check and the next available slot is 2 weeks away.. I'm gonna book it and hope they have items I need I. Stock. Kicking myself I didn't do it sooner. Xx
Yes it is a good idea but doesn't help in the meantime with the supermarket shelves striped bare. Plus the people who are doing your online shop are actually doing it on the shop floor with all the hoarders to try and cope with the extra online shopping some of whom are getting abused buy those who are seemingly better of and with their own trollies piled high. I've seen and heard them so I know what I am relaying to you.
Supermarkets at the moment are giving lip service to restricting the amount of certain items people can buy but are not enforcing it.
So if you like me and many others who have not only been told we are at extra risk are also joining those on low incomes who can't afford to baulk buy and buy extra freezers like some of the others.
So we are having to make extra shopping trips just to try and buy our normal weekly shop.
So much for being classed as at risk and to avoid going out.
I have never in my whole life been so disgusted in the selfish behaviour of people who actually are very well dressed and paid towards their fellow man.
I've got to the point I wonder why I'm here and why I bother as it really does seem those who are not financially able or able to drag home more than one week of shopping can go to the dogs because we are looked down on by those who think they are better.
Greed pure greed and very little thought of others.
Sorry rant over had to get it of my chest as not only my hubby and I struggling to get our weekly shop but also my daughter who works full time as a carer for special need adults but is try to raise her children on her own and feed them and when she's crying because she's gone to the shop to get to nights dinner for her children because she can't afford to stock pile it's too much. the human race is sick and really needs this virus to wipe the selfish gits out.
I know exactly the type of behaviour you are describing and many of my friends who are in good health are not behaving badly and are equally disgusted with this bad and selfish attitude from others. It's getting them down too. One has joined Facebook groups andr local groups offering to go in their cars and buy for people who can't get out. Maybe there is someone near you who could help by doing this for you? My friend isn't charging or asking for petrol money. I've also heard today that some supermarkets (I think Sainsbury's is one of them) is giving priority during the first hour of the day to the elderly and disabled., Our conditions count as a disability. I think this will start tomorrow. I will try and look on line after and post the article link.
My partner and I went out v early today and got some food, but no toilet rolls, or paracetamol! Still, there are tissues and kitchen roll that will do the job before I have to start stripping the leaves of the household plants 😅😂. I too am supposed to be self isolating and given the nodules he has in his lungs from sarcoidosis, so should he.
As for those of us with little money or seemingly little status because of our illnesses, which often limit our ability to work and earn, take note: YOU ARE ALL ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL, PRECIOUS, UNREPLACEABLE, PEOPLE - MONEY IS A HUMAN CONSTRUCT THAT MAKES OUR LIVES HARDER OR EASIER BUT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW VALUABLE YOU REALLY ARE.
So, yes, our government is sorely letting us down in terms of its planning of how the essentials are being distributed, but please don't stop looking to your neighbours - there might be more people willing to help you than you think. People may not be sympathetic to us ordinarily because many of us don't look ill, but these are extraordinary times and people might now listen and respond in a positive way that they don't normally do when we try to explain our conditions.
As for your daughter and the line of work she is in, she is a heroine in my book, as are all of those doing the absolutely essential and meaningful frontline jobs, including those stacking the shelves in the supermarket today. Sadly, those doing the really essential work that enables our daily survival and human rather than economic growth are rarely acknowledged, respected or properly renumerated for their efforts. I hope that this will change going forward as this hellish situation is really putting into focus just how important and indispensable their services are.
I embarrassed my partner by audibly thanking the staff in Tesco for what they are doing for us today. It was apparent from the response that people aren't doing this. They are really exposed to this disease. They are constantly touching surfaces that a hundred other hands have touched and I noticed they have not been given gloves - I doubt people on the till have much of a chance to nip off and wash their hands for their own wellbeing.
I heard one young man very upset because he lives with his vulnerable dad and is terrified of infecting him. He'd requested a mask, but had been given none. I thanked him. His colleague then told me she had bronchiectasis and had requested not to work on the shop floor, but had been refused in the absence of a GP letter which she couldn't get as her GP surgery is shut. Sorry to go on, but I'm pained by the way people are being treated.
I don't know where your daughter lives, but can someone shop on her behalf as described above? I can imagine the pain of not being able to feed your own children. People are getting to the supermarket early to shop, hence little there after the first hour.
If I hear of any other schemes, I will post them. Please everyone don't give up hope and don't be frightened to ask for help. A big virtual hug to all of you 💐💐💐💐
I hope it is of the nice moisturising variety as I truly don't want to bring anyone's spirits down. We have a fantastic community here for which I am truly grateful 💐
Tesco’s have announced early shop for the elderly and carers .
I’ve just emailed the sun 🤦♀️ I bet I get no reply but I just feel yet again autoimmune illnesses are completely ignored and I’m sick of reading “died from underlying health conditions “. I think they should be more open with the public. Listen if you can’t get bog roll, go for wipes and if there’s no baby wipes your certainly find face wipes which I’m sure are pretty safe for the nrver regions. I don’t think going for dettol wipes count 😂x
Thank you so much for your reply it's so comforting to read. Yes this virus has shown just how selfish and nasty some people are. When we found out that some have been buying extra freezers to stash their hoarding in my husband nearly gave himself a stroke he was that angry. Today he was very tempted to put a post on Facebook saying that the electric companies are going to bring in power cuts because of all the extra freezers draining the system. 🤔😜😜🤪😂😂🤣. Then we wondered would these hoarders panic and rush out to buy generators. 💥💥💥🙈🙉🙊😂😂.
Ha ha! I love your husband's thinking! That would be brilliant. They'd probably try to sell the defrosting product as fresh on eBay for ten times the price if they couldn't find a generator. Thank you for putting a smile on my partner's face - I showed him the post and he cracked up. That's given us a really good laugh before bed.
Both hubby and I have a warped sense of humour most of the time although lately were struggling to find it. He cracked me up when he said about the power thing as well. We both had a great laugh today when our daughter came round and told us about what she had seen in Sainsbury's this morning. They have finally started to restrict the amount of the same items people can buy and the hoarders got a shock at the check out's this time. She was behind a couple who both had trollies the wife's was piled high with loo rolls and he had multiple cases of the heavier items. They had been followed by the staff and at the till in front of everyone the staff told them that there are signs asking people not to stock pile and to be considerate of others. The staff then took back most of their hoard leaving them with the limited amount and very red faces. We wish we had been there I for one would have cheered and clapped the staff.
I messaged someone on eBay this morning abuse for selling toilet roll at a ridiculous price . There are people that have nothing !!!!
I haven’t bulked brought, I’ve just put an order in so that hopefully in a few weeks I at least know we may get a delivery of some fresh healthy foods. X
It's a great idea Lisa 🤗🤗 who knows how this is gonna pan out n u got your children to protect as well as yourself!! Thanx for posting about this..I've never shopped online coz I'm not that cyber savvy..but I think I'm gonna have to learn PDQ!! 😹Hubby's bringing home the bacon so to speak..well a couple of lean rashers!! Omg this whole sitch has sent be a bit crazy..forgive me!! 😜🤯😹😽😽Xx
I know some people are being ridiculous and I wasn't having a pop at you it's what is going on that is getting to me. My daughter has bipolar and I can see her slipping down because of the hoarders who have left little if anything to feed her children. She's a single mother who works hard looking after special needs adults in the community and this is getting to be the final straw. Those who she looks after are not only vulnerable physically but mentally as well and have problems coping with changes normally but now the day center they go to has closed down and the carers have to take up the extra slack and try to calm down their clients. Good knows what will happen to them if even one of the carers have to self isolate as they don't have enough carers to cover any shortage of staff.
Report them to Trading Standards that's illegal to split a multy to sell on for extra profit.
Apart from that how are you doing?
We still seem to be having to go out even more than normal just to get what we normally do in one shop.
Plus twice this week I've had to go to the chemist for my prescriptions and the place was rammed I've never seen them so busy.
Next Tuesday I've got to have a Scope down my throat and I was really surprised at how quickly the appointment came as I was only at the GP Saturday but it appears that a lot of people are panicking and canceling their appointments, guess that's a bonus.
Yes - I learned this the hard way. I have done a weekly online shop with Tesco for years and I pay a monthly subscription to their delivery service. I went online last weekend to do my online shop and the whole week ahead was fully booked! I eventually managed to get a slot for click & collect which means that my husband will have to trail into the nearest town to collect our order. Not what we hoped to do due to the coronavirus. My husband and I are in our late 60s and both have underlying health problems. We live in a small village in the Scottish Highlands which has no shop so we are very much dependent on our Tesco delivery especially now because of the coronavirus. It annoys me that loyal, long time customers who really need this service are losing out to first time customers. I have now booked delivery slots for the next few weeks to ensure that we get a home delivery. In addition of course, numerous products are unavailable due to panic buying. What is it with people and toilet rolls! The country is never going to run out of toilet rolls. People can be very selfish. I imagine that most of us on this site will soon be self isolating. Good luck to everyone and lets hope we can get through this very difficult time.
I think so mostly..lupus is on the high risk list..if u have yearly flu jab n are on immunosuppressant or steroids. This is in the current situation in the UK 🤗😽😽xx
