Had my cystoscopy this morning, where they insert camera into the bladder checking to see if there was any cause why I have occasional bleeding in urine and also frequent UTI’s.

Everything ok,so advised to:

Have 3 months on Hiprex

D-Mannose

tablets from health shop

Cranberry tablets

Yakult

Plenty of water and cranberry juice.

Fingers crossed 🤞 this works.

I am so sorry that you are still suffering. I am about to go down the same route as you after nine courses of antibiotics. I tried the D Mannose and it had absolutely no affect on my UTI’s but I really hope it works for you xx

Hopefully with the Hiprex that’s been prescribed, D-Mannise, cranberry tablets surely all this will help, as well as a probiotic.

Follow up letter to the doctor from hospital, I should have topic oestrogen.

Also said in my letter I had a recent E.coli UTI maybe that’s why I felt so ill.

Anyway hopefully onwards and upwards

Hope your UTI’s are a thing if the past.

Take care.

Mine have always been eco li infections and they do make you feel so unwell. I take two triple strength cranberry tablets daily. I am also taking Just for Tummies pro biotics. My last test a week ago showed the infection has at last gone but the burning remains. I wonder about the topical oestrogen and will be interested to know if it helps you. I had a hysterectomy 18 years ago and had a bad reaction to HRT so was taken off them. I know how miserable these infections are so I really hope that you feel better

I wish we knew what the origin of the e coli is, I’m getting paranoid, it could be hygiene, food, pool water according to google..interesting because I went swimming a few days before.

I was hoping mine might be a one off. Awful for you too have a few.

I too had a hysterectomy about 14 years ago only leaving my cervix.

Will let you know when I speak to my own GP re the topical oestrogen.

Yes I’m feeling much better, thanks for your response, hope you have a lovely weekend .

Oh yes please do let me know. They left my cervix too. Two years ago after I literally screamed and bled after a smear test they put me on a vaginal moisturiser. It helps but does not eradicate the burning. My GP keeps lecturing me about hygiene too which is insulting as I shower twice a day 😱I hope you have a lovely weekend too xx

It makes you feel as if your dirty and your not...I’m busy cleaning house as much as possible with hubby in toe!

Though I’m as clean as most people, what else can I do.

I agree. I hate being lectured on wiping front to back. It is highly embarrassing but due to my balance, numb fingers, short arms and long body and obesity I cannot wipe myself. My hubby is meticulous bless his heart and I go and get a shower afterwards so we can do no more in that respect. It really is upsetting. My only thought is that I am incontinent of urine and wear pads so maybe the bacteria travels that way? I just don’t know.

Have any of you had a work-up for iatrogenic injury which caused a fistula ?

I ask because my mother had a botched emergency caesaraen many moons ago that caused 3 fistulas - 1: urethravagjna, 2 anovaginal , 3 bladder vagina.

I had tried everything for her to get rid of UTIs and it’s impossible if there is a fistula. They’re not easy to see sometimes on MRIs, you need a competent radiologist to read them , took us having to send images to Cleveland Clinic ..

Just something I think you should totally rule out .

As for treatments for UTIs: Uva Ursi tincture with half a teaspoon of baking soda worked better than antibiotics, and so does Goldenseal Tincture with Echinacea. Both much better than antibiotics.

Sorry if this sound daft.

But is the bleeding connected to lupus.

Just that I've had lupus rash for over 30 years and was 0.1 out on the ANA test for diagnosis. So they diagnose me with fibromyalgia back in late 90's.

But I get problems with bleeding and went through this test and couldn't find owt, so was discharged.

I have no idea what causes the bleeding though I have one more procedure to go through, as my cervix is closed I have to get a smear under anaesthetic, whether that will show up something time will tell.

One good thing re the camera in the bladder procedure I had, they checked thoroughly as I had a TOT op years ago and mesh was used so it’s confirmed it hasn’t eroded into the bladder.

So do you still bleed?

No I’ve never heard of this before.

Since taking the meds and other advice from the GP as mentioned above, I’ve not had another UTI since 22nd Jan, however I still have the urgency to go to the loo most days and most of the time I make it in time, I absolutely hate it.

The GP thinks I have an overactive bladder.

We are all different and just have to keep trying to find a solution that helps.

I may try your tips given as I’m not sure how long I will be given the Hiprex.

Feel so sorry for your mum as it’s a horrible condition.

Aye : UTIs are terrible, she’s elderly and they effect her differently now - confusion and delirium. Terrible !!!

I read “How Not to Die: Discover the Foods Scientifically Proven to Prevent and Reverse Disease” which is a good read and well researched, the author claims that chicken will cause quite a bit of ecoli infections, so we cut that out and when we do have it at restaurant we ensure the chicken was raised without antibiotics. Further on in that book he advocates for frozen blueberries and cardamom (blend ) to super charge the Tcells to kill bacteria, we also has success with that.. used to many different things for UTIs ... oil of oregano drops (horrible tasting) is also good for ecoli and proven by research to help with Ecoli +. A lot of natural treatments without destroying your gut biome as you need that to be healthy as well for immune system.

Keeping Vitamin D3 at great levels, iron, b12 and folate.

Once you’re on those long term antibiotics there is no real way to tell if you have an infection or not, other than symptoms , urgency is certainly a symptom. Antibiotics will mess with the urine culture, it won’t grow so they’ll keep telling you have no infection despite there being a hidden one . Urine cultures are not always accurate without antibiotics. I bought the dipsticks and check for blood and lucocytes at home.

Pulled my hair out with those damn infections , there is a reason for everything and best to find a doctor who can find route cause rather than treating the symptoms.

Wish you the best

I know what your saying regarding the antibiotics however I’d be reluctant to stop them as I don’t want the repeat of the UTI’s I had.

Feel so sorry for your mum. You have done a lot of research on her behalf.

Thank you and i hear you re: not coming off antibiotics for fear of infection. I just want to share what I have found works and let you know that it is a mathematical impossibility that there is not a root cause of chronic infections. Treating symptoms frustrates me, and it took all my strength to not have a total fit of rage when my mother was told on many occasions to wipe front to back ( totally insulting ) when there was such a life threatening root cause of infection. Best of luck !

I know this is an old post and hope you are now free from infections. Just to say I was told never to take Hipprex with D Mannose, reason being the point of Hipprex is to keep your urine acidic, the opposite of D Manoose which is to keep it Alkaline, apparently you should also take 1G of Vit C alongside Hipprex. I have just been prescribed it but very fearful as the thought of making my bladder any more acidic is very scary. Hope you are feeling better.

Only took what my dr recommended but it’s worked for me I’ve not had a UTI for 15 months. A godsend as we all know it’s a horrible thing to have.I hope your treatment works. I’m on vit D as levels were low but never been advised about the vit C.

Take care

Heather

Thank you , so pleased you are seeing such an improvement, could I just ask did you start the Hipprex gradually , ie half the recommended dose? I just am concerned the whole dose initially will make the burning even worse .

Jhpc profile image
Jhpc in reply to Evelyn65

I taken two Hipprex a day from day one ive had no problems being on it.

But I never had the burning sensation.

Keep me updated and hope it works.
