Lupus and pregnancy
You need to talk to your specialist.
mycophenate is not recommended if you are trying to get pregnant.
Hi Gubby - please speak to your rheumatologist/ care team before trying to get pregnant. It important that you are taking the right medication and that your disease is under control before you get pregnant.
I had my baby at 30 and didn’t know that I had lupus. I was diagnosed with AI thrombocytopenia at the time.
I was fine in the first two trimesters but had a difficult time in the third and was eventually induced. But after all the hardship I ended up with a very healthy, beautiful and bright baby.
I wish you all the best xx
Thank you @ crazy_Cat_Woman
You should definitely speak with your specialist before trying for a baby, I was referred to a pre-pregnancy clinic for mine by my rheumatologist. MMF is not recommended for pregnancy and you will have to stop that medication and it is advised to have at least a 6 month gap between stopping and getting pregnant. It is best to only try once your Lupus has been calm for at least 3 months also. I had a healthy baby delivered at 36 weeks so only just counted as premature, he is doing very well so it is possible My blog is positivelylupus.com if you'd like to have a read of my journey, I blogged through my pregnancy and after so it may help. xxx
Hi I read your blog on pregancy. I've just found out I'm 7 weeks pregnant I have SLE it wasnt planned and has come as a total shock! Can i ask if you had any anti bodies during your pregnancy? Thanks x
Hi Gubby_1 ,
It is definitely worthwhile speaking to your consultant. It isn't safe to conceive when you are taking mycophenolate - it is recommended this treatment is stopped at least 6 months prior to conception. This means that your consultant will need to look at changing your medication, perhaps to something like azathioprine, which is safe in pregnancy.
