Dialysis

So this time tomorrow morning I'll be checking into hospital to get my catheter fitted so I can start dialysis in 6 weeks time. To say I'm bricking it is an understatement, been absolutely fine through the whole thing except the weekend when I had a wee wobble. It's a step into the unknown but one I need and want to start now as I know I will feel better once I start it.

When I read your post it was as if I had written it!! I’m in the exact same situation, getting my catheter fitted next week for dialysis about 6 weeks from now. I to have held it together throughout this ordeal of kidney disease due to lupus, but the closer it gets to the catheter the more nervous I get. I know it’s normal to be concerned & somewhat afraid of the unknown, no matter how informed we may be. I think your “wee wobble “ is completely understandable & you (&I) wouldn’t be human if not somewhat apprehensive. I think you’ve got this under control though - you know this is in your best interest & that you will feel better!! I’m sure you’ve felt pretty crappy for a long time - look forward to feeling better & all will be good. I will keep you in my thoughts & prayers tomorrow & wish you all the best.

Thinking of you

I got close to this but managed to stave it off. So far.

When I was attending the kidney clinic regularly I met many people who were on dialysis. On the whole they had just adjusted to it. But it is life changing and you will have to hang on to the positives and get your head straight.

Just remember to be careful with the catheter and keep it clean.

Keep strong.
