Hi, i am new to all this but my brother was been diagnosed with lupus last year he is only 26. He has had a very tough month or so as has been unwell and now been told that the damaged caused to his heart and liver from the lupus which he was unaware of is whats causing him to have severe chest pain. He has also had/got 4 blood clotts. He has a very labour intensive job so has been off now for about 4 weeks. I am very worried as i can see it is getting him down. He has a very young family and he is even finding daily things with them difficult. Does anyone have any advice, tips or anything that i, we or he can do? I have looked at a support group but doesnt seem to be one in Dumfries and Galloway.

My brother
Hi mybrother26, so sorry to hear this. Speaking from personal experience I can only say take each day at a time. I was 28 when I was diagnosed and had 7 months off work, I also have young kids to deal with at this time too, get in touch with lupus uk as they have great information that can help you all understand it too. I too had clots and it affected my kidneys on both occasions. Easier said than done but try stay positive and if you or he needs to chat get in touch on here.
Thank you.
So sorry to hear about your brother.
As well as all the advice from the doctor/specialists it’s important that he can communicate with you and his family so yous can relate to what he’s going through and give him the support that he needs.
This site is excellent if you need any advice or just chat how he’s feeling, there’s a lot of support out there.
Maybe he can get a referral from his doctor if he’s feeling anxious.
He’s lucky to have such a caring brother who wishes to help him.
Have you looked on the BLF Breathe easy list.
Only at 26 he might find the rest of a group a bit old for him
Joining this forum may be useful to him,as May ringing or contacting Lupus UK.
Hope things go well .
