Hi lupie people....I love saying that as my friends call me lupie without a diagnosis....
I went to see a dermo doctor today so he could see my rash, showed him pictures on the progress from April till now, only started clearing now as my doc prescribed the 3rd sedriod cream last week it's starting to dry out,
His prescribed me another strong sedriod cream woth a antibiotic in it, said it's probably took so long as I may have got a them in it.
So I explained my other symtoms, tired hair loss, pains and what not ...to my surprise his ordered a blood test that no other doc has a Double stranded DNA antibodies test
My question as i tock the form and shut my mouth is.....whats this for would it be to just check for lupus or would it be for different things?
Any advice would be great
Thank you for reading
And hope everyone healthy
Xx

As I understand it..ds-dna is a further test for lupus..if ANA comes back positive the ds-dna gives the doc further info to decide whether u have an autoimmune disease or not. This test does take a while to do so the results probably won't be back for a few weeks..others on here r more knowledgeable about this blood test..so hopefully you'll get a reply from someone with more expertise than me!!
Your dermy doc is looking after u though n is doing the right things to either confirm or rule out lupus.. your on the right track!! Xx
DNA antibodies are highly specific for lupus. Presence of antibodies against double-stranded DNA is the hallmark of lupus and rarely found in any other condition. Approximately 60% of people with lupus will test ‘positive’ for this test. Therefore if someone is positive for these antibodies it often means they have lupus. For more information, you can read our blog article on ‘getting a diagnosis of lupus’ which explains the test in more detail lupusuk.org.uk/getting-diag...
