Hi all...received a copy letter from Guys hospital about my recent blood tests... And it's the anti dsDNA bloods that have shown mildly positive so he's repeating them.... Am i correct that these antibodies are the ones that you wouldn't tend to put down to anything else and I can almost be certain I have lupus (considering my history too)? This tiredness is getting worse...or more noticeable.... Why do they wait 3months to see me again?....

Anti Ds DNA antibodies confirmatory for Lupus?
I am having lupus but my ds DNA is negative since diagnosed. .
Hi jp83,
You are correct that anti dsDNA antibodies are highly specific to lupus and their presence is the hallmark of the condition. They are rarely found in other conditions.
They may be wanting to repeat the tests because they are only mildly positive. A strongly positive result would provide almost total proof of a diagnosis. The level of these antibodies can be used as a rough measure for disease activity, so repeating the test after a few months will give them a better idea of how active the lupus is.
Would you like some more information about lupus and how it is diagnosed? I would be happy to send you one of our free info packs. Just send me a private message or email paul@lupusuk.org.uk with your name and address.
Hi Jp83
Have you been tested for anaemia and thyroid ?. These can cause excessive tiredness and be successfully treated. Your GP can do this. X
Hi there I know your post was a ling time ago..I do hope you are well?I was hoping if you had a diagnosis...did your results come back positive again .
I had the same and tested again ..came back positive again and even higher..but rhemy still said I don't have lupus and put my symptoms down to a flare of my psoriatic arthritis that I was diagnosed with over 10 years ago . Even though he has started me on hydrocloxquine which is used for lupus not PsA?
Any how was just wondering how your journey in diagnosis went as seems similar?
Thank you in advance.
