Hope you are all well, I’ve been experiencing some strange sensation when I’ve been drinking cold drinks and it’s really hard to explain but here goes. When I drink a cold drink I have one part of the roof and back of my mouth that go numb - it’s as if I’m about to get brain freeze but the pain that shoots up makes me want to close my right eye (It all seems to be more right sided than left) sometimes my eye does close and I can’t really do anything until it stops. Then when I swallow I get a really shocking feeling in my throat as the liquid goes down it’s as if I’m feeling a contraction down my body and it stops me from breathing properly.
I’ve tried explaining it to my family and friends but they brush it off as brain freeze, I’ve had that loads of times this is completely different as it’s taking over my movement and breathing. I try not to worry about it but wanted to ask if anyone else gets a similar sensation?
Do you think it’s worth mentioning to the doctor?
Thanks,
Leenie x

Sounds a bit like a nerve sensitivity, which is why brain freeze happens so you just may have a greater sensitivity to cold or an inflamed nerve at the moment. After my stroke initially I could no longer drink frozen lemonade after a life time of no issues with brain freeze. My brain was hypervigilant to sensation due to inflammation most likely. I stopped drinking anything to hot or cold for months but tried a frozen lemonade last week, it is very hot still in the states, and I had no issues. So maybe take a break from cold drinks for a while let the nerves rest and try again in a few months perhaps.
thank you for your response Roarah, I used to have ice in my drinks because of the heatwave in the UK but I have stopped doing this and it seems to be getting better. Unless I drink tap water thats been running for a while I still get the bad throat symptoms where I can feel everything contracting and struggle with my breathing. I think you're right in suggesting nerve sensitivity and I hope like you it sorts itself out again in time
