Lupus Awareness month / World Lupus day

In USA they have a Lupus Awareness month in May. In UK October is Lupus Awareness month, however all over the globe everyone also has a World Lupus Day on 10th May.

I'm just wondering whether other European countries have a different month , why is it October in UK?

Up until about the mid 2000's our lupus awareness month was also in October in the United States.

I believe it's because of Breast Cancer month being in October, that we changed it because they were getting so much attention.

I guess this way we get a little coverage in the fall and in the spring across the world💜💜💜

Djlr is right that it used to be October in the USA and they changed it because of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The UK isn't alone in observing it in October still much of Europe, Canada and Australia also have their awareness month in October. This was reviewed a couple of years ago by our Trustees and they decided to keep it the same. October seems to work quite well for us and having World Lupus Day in May it gives us extra chances to get some media attention and make some noise.
