Ibuprofen and Lupus

Hi. Just wondering, if possible from a medical professional, if it's possible to use ibuprofen patches for constant knee pain. I'm on the road to Osteoarthritis, with a current destination of Osteonecrosis along the way. The pain is especially horrendous at night, whilst trying to sleep. I have tried everything over and beyond the counter and nothing works effectively or longer lasting.

I've been told by my Lupus consultant and my Orthopaedic consultant to take large rounds of Co codomol, followed by the odd paracetamol chaser, but I take enough pills as it is and I don't want to get dependent on painkillers. I struggle enough taking pills full stop.

I keep seeing these adverts for a 24hr patch, which would in theory, just do the trick. Is it possible in practice?

Many thanks in advance.🙂

If you have a Lupus specialist why are you not getting anti inflammatory medications? I don’t know your medical history but it seems a bit odd? There are also steroid injections not the knee which will give you instant relief. Speak to your doctors as nobody can advise without knowing your full history.

I should have pointed out that I have inflammation in the knee occasionally from Lupus, but I also have deterioration in the knee from steriod and general wear and tear. Anti-inflamatory drugs do not work when the bone is dying in your knee, which is what Osteonecrosis means.

That is the pain I get at night, which is completely different from Lupus inflammation, hence I'm under an Orthopaedic surgeon.

I'll wait to hear from someone who perhaps has similar bone problems than me and more helpful.

It's a hard problem did you try voltaren gel? Ibuprofen over time will destroy your stomach...

That's true. This is the patch by the way. I guess it would be the same consideration the voltaron gel. Ive seen both, just don't know if Lupus patients can use them.
