Rash after I stopped Prednisoen to MTX

Okay, so my rheumy doc was no help. I told her that since phasing off my steroids (I was taking 40 mg for vasculitis/pulmonary sarcoidosis) while taking MTX I am experiencing morning nausea, mental fog, and now have a rash on my face, neck, and chest (sometimes on my arms and legs but off and on). It is a mix of tiny red spots and white spots that look like whiteheads but are not. She told me to up my folic acid from once daily to two but didn't prescribe anything for my nausea or rash. It's super itchy too. Has anyone experienced a rash like this on MTX? What were you able to do for it? I am trying light therapy with the Neutrogena light mask on my face but it isn't helping.

Honestly, I am peeved, I feel like my Doctor thinks I shouldn't care about a silly ole rash--hello--it is uncomfortable (it's an intermittent burning, sting type of itchy) and it just doesn't look all that good... I feel self-conscience going out because makeup barely covers it.

Hi so sorry your having all these symptoms. The rash you are describing is what I get when I have eaten foods I am allergic to or when I take medication that doesn’t agree with me. in your case it may be the medication or food. I developed multiple allergies to food and medication. Check on the lists of everything you are taking especially the new medication and let us know how you go on. The rheumatologist should try getting you on something else as this might not be suitable. Let us know how you go on. Have a great weekend and I hope your feeling much better soon. Take care. Elena. 😀

Aww , thank you so very much! Yeah, It could be that... I already have a few food allergies (soy, peanuts, wheat and corn) that I ry to avoid or it may even be some off the meds I am still taking, like Folic acid, mixing badly. I see my doc on the 23d of May -- maybe she can help me get to the bottom of this as well...

Ah bless you they will have to do more tests to find out if its allergies or other conditions. It’s a worry when the rheumatologist seems so laid back. It’s awful that your just left with medication that’s making you unwell. I am sure if the rheumatologist had all your symptoms she wouldn’t go without proper care. Get a diary of all your symptoms and take photos. Show them to your dr and any one involved in your care and hopefully they can do a better job of looking after you. Wishing you all the very best. Elena. 😀

I appreciate it Elana, thank you :-). IKR, the steroids made me feel great--I almost want to get back on them but I know my doc wants me to rely on the MTX so I will try to hang in there ( I still have some steroids left, just in case).

I bet you felt a lot better on the steroids as I have always felt so well after taking them for a chest infection I wanted to take them long term but my rheumatologist won’t allow it. Maybe look at an anti inflammatory diet, bottled or filtered water, try B and D vitamins and get some nutritional advice. Try going gluten free and sitting in a steam room, get plenty of fresh air and a little bit of sunlight. When I managed to stick to it I felt so well when I stuck to the diet but found it very restrictive. Will do some more research and if I find anything I will let you know. If the new medication makes you unwell go to the Drs and see if there is anything else you can try. It’s all you can do and the rest is up to the medical team and the healthcare professionals Have a great easter weekend. Take care. Elena
