Hi 2weeks of coughn non stop sleepless nights tried alot of home remedies counter medincines nothing helping feel as though im disturbing rest of family at night time chest x ray clear very surprised....

I’m the same as you atm. Been unwell for 2 weeks with some sort of viral invasion. Now coughing 24/7 causing gagging, headaches, pain and more. I just googled ‘hacking cough’ and apparently 8 weeks duration is acceptable. I took my daughter to the gp 2 weeks ago for the same and she was put on oral steroids to settle things down so perhaps I need the same . . . .? It’s exhausting.

Hi Naz

Have you tried Turmeric. It's fab especially for a chesty cough. The Indians and Chinese have been using it for ever to aid recovery.

Have you tried the 'Indian method'? Half a cup of hot full fat milk + 1/4tsp pwd turmeric. Then nothing to eat or drink for at least half an hour. Do this twice a day. I found it worked for me. I had a cough for 3 weeks last Nov. And it really did bring relief.

Have you had the GP listen to your chest to make sure you have not got a chest infection?

Turmeric is a great suggestion honestly. Buy the powder - look up Golden Paste recipe on line - I put it in milk and pour it on my cereal. Just two days ago I rubbed the paste on my sore gum and the infection and swelling went down so well my dentist was delighted.

Daily small doses will curb that cough. I had a really bad Sjogrens cough before I took it daily. Over the counter Broncho Stop is excellent it is only herbs and very soothing. I also suck sugar free mint sweets to keep my dry throat at bay. Good luck.

Naz2005,

I’ve had a bad cough since 14 Dec and it is finally getting better.

I’ve been on antibiotics back in January, but was still coughing.

I think things take longer if you have an autoimmune disease.

I inhale menthol crystals available from chemists in a some boiling water in the morning and I find it makes a big difference.

Hi Naz2005 , have you been to you doctor about the cough? Do you think it is a virus/infection causing it?

I phoned my GP yesterday and she wasn’t happy that I’ve been coughing and feeling pants for nearly 3 weeks. I had to go in and she’s put me on 30mg prednisolone for a week with antibiotics to start by Monday if the steroids alone aren’t sufficient. She stressed that a normally fit person could get over it unaided in time but that’s not me . .

Same here Naz started with a really bad sore throat, cough and lost my voice. Still coughing 2 weeks later and had chest checked all clear but was told it was a viral laryngitis and given a bottle of Difflam oral rinse to gargle with every 1.5 to 3 hours as needed. 2 days in its much better. It's available without a prescription. Hope you feel better soon x
