Check this out. Sooooooo many of us are having similar experiences! For me it was my blood work and pelvic MRI. Oh! I found a copy of an ECG from a year and a half ago ... doctor said I was "fine". The tech: "Left Atrial Enlargement". Pardon me but, WTF! The doctor was told I had Lupus and my heart was at risk. How dare he say I'm all good....At the very least he could have faxed it to my Rheumy.

I know it must be very scary to read something as serious as that in your medical records. For the most part, doctors take abnormal tests results seriously. In this case, is it possible the tech diagnosis was based on a digital reading and then your doctor did his own detailed assessment? For your peace of mind, get in touch with your doctor right away. I am hoping you will get an explanation. Seriously, if your doctor did not order an echocardiogram on someone like you, he must have felt confident the diagnosis was incorrect. Very sorry you have this burden. Give us an update.

Nope, watched the doctor read it. But he was ER. I've sent the copy to my PCP and Rheumy to review. But this isn't the first with the ER docs missing things that I need to know. And, sadly it's just so common for our docs nowadays to miss stuff. I'm the record keeper and make sure to point things out to them which usually ends with an "oops" on their part. It wasn't as big of a deal awhile ago, but when they discovered I had C Diff and literally was on death's door step they should have noticed. I was the one who called out the abnormal counts. If I had trusted them to thoroughly look at the lab tests, I literally would not be writing this post. I plan to bring it up at my next appointment. Ideally we can come up with a way for them to be more on top of things. Chronic issues, I get it. But acute life threatening ones, nope. No excuse.

Actually, that is what I am saying. He read the actual ECG, not just the diagnosis the digital indicated. That is what he is supposed to do. If you are correct and you do have an enlarged heart and the doctor did not direct you to a cardiologist, then that would be big. You will get clarification from your PCP. But I don’t think either of those doctors would be as good as an ER doctor at reading an ECG. They might send you for an echocardiogram. I hope they put your mind at ease. Try to remember all tests have to be interpreted. Most are not accurate on their own.
