Sharing an uplifting song by Muse for those days when Lupus just needs it’s ass kicking quite frankly :) Anyone got any other suggestions?

Hi everyone,

Just thought I’d try and share this track by Muse called ‘Dig Down’. I just think the words (and video) are just what’s needed on those mornings when I have to drag my aching body into work due to Lupus!

Does anyone have any other uplifting, powerful tracks that help get them going? I’d love any suggestions as I’m planning a ‘power playlist’ :)

I’m not sure if the link will work, but here goes. It’s probably not everyone’s cup of tea, but I think it’s ace, so I hope you enjoy....

Take care,

Sarah

I approve this message.

In an attempt to cling to some semblence of street cred, may I offer Goldfrapp's 'Some People'? The closing lines are worth their weight in....erm....gold

more 'power playlisty' might be 'Become the One'

Wow Whisperit! What a beautiful song!!

I’ve never really listened to Goldfrapp before. She has a sound and narrative like Kate Bush I think.

That’ll go on my playlist, thank you xx

I'm a total fanboy - always happy for any excuse to spread their wonderfulness :)

‘Become the one’ again has the sound of Kate Bush ‘waking the witch’. I’m sure she must have been influenced by her. It sounds amazing.

Have you tried listening to Florence and the Machine? I bet you’d like Flo, she’s got a similar alternative sound to Kate and Goldfrapp especially her more unknown songs. Lots of really poignant lyrics too - poetry.

I love music! I get down if I forget my phone in the morning and can’t listen to anything.

Thank you for contributing Whisperit xx

Yes, my daughter had a big poster for Florence on her wall at uni, so I haven't missed out there. Fanboy facts - Will Gregory of Goldfrapp did the arrangements for the 'How Big...' album, and Hazel Mills tours with both bands as a keyboardist/vocalist x

Serser in reply towhisperit

I didn’t know that. One of my favorite albums! Went to see her do the How Big tour in Manchester a few years ago! Due to see her in Manchester this year too :)

I think you can hear how they link well.

Sorry everyone I am a rock chick from my youth all the way, or hair rock as the hubby calls it

But I definitely love the uplifting power of music whatever your genre - unless you share my husband’s taste that’s just awful 🙈

Serser in reply toHelenL75

Aww poor hubby!

Totally agree, doesn’t matter what your taste is, some banging tunes help the day along sometimes.

Do you have a favourite Helen?

Oh too many to mention but love a bit of old Bon Jovi or a English band called Thunder - relive my youth every time but always make me feel better

Hx ❤️

I don’t really know why this post prompts me to put Waterloo Sunset up there for me.. but it just does.

Although I’m an adopted Scot now, I’m a Thames dwelling Londoner by origin, so maybe this is why this song still always makes me smile:

Waterloo Sunset

The Kinks

Dirty old river, must you keep rolling, rolling into the night

People so busy, make me feel dizzy, taxi light shines so bright

But I don't, need no friends

As long as I gaze on Waterloo Sunset, I am in paradise

Every day I look at the world from my window

Chilly chilly is the evening time, Waterloo sunset's fine

Terry meets Julie, Waterloo Station, every Friday night

But I am so lazy, don't want to wander, I stay at home at night

But I don't, feel afraid

As long as I gaze on Waterloo Sunset, I am in paradise

Every day I look at the world from my window

Chilly chilly is the evening time, Waterloo sunset's fine

Millions of people swarming like flies 'round Waterloo underground

Terry and Julie cross over the river where they feel safe and sound

And they don't, need no friends

As long as they gaze on Waterloo Sunset, they are in paradise

Songwriters: Raymond Douglas Davies

GREAT thread Serser‼️

The WONDERFUL Norwegian composer/musician/singer Ane Brun has lupus:

thequietus.com/articles/186...

And her song with Fleshquartet ‘The Opening’ always does it for me 🍀😘🍀😘

m.youtube.com/watch?feature...

When there’s so much darkness closing in

Just swerve around slowly

You’ll find an opening

A light will appear like an animal between the trees

There you’ll find your pocket of peace

Make a perfect circle, it’s all around you

Put your mark on the map anywhere or nowhere

It’s up to you it’s not too late to find an opening

Trace a track until you find the end

There’s a clearing in every forest, at least one for every man

The light will appear like an animal between the trees

There you’ll find your pocket of peace

Make a perfect circle it’s all around you

You know that everything lingers for you to follow through

||: It’s up to you

It’s not too late to find an opening

Do you wanna rediscover or do want it all to be over

Do you want to see the meaning of the circleing?

Beautiful Barnclown!

Her voice is haunting! I just love how you can hear her accent when she sings, there’s a sincerity in the way she sings too. You can tell she’s really felt the words.

What’s gifts you’ve given me on this thread!

I’d have never stumbled upon Ane myself.

Thank you Barnclown x

Am SO GLAD she hits The Spot! I only discovered her cause this song is the theme of one scand version of the Wallander TV series (am a huge Henning Mankell fan). But now i have 2 of her albums...i find her totally inspiring and enchanting! The fact she lives with lupus and is communicating about this creatively is just amazing & wonderful XOXO

Ooooh! Nothing like music to enhance the mood and salve the pain! Just loving this thread this morning, it’s perked me right up - thanks Serser and everyone!

Ane Brun also toured with Peter Gabriel and sang the Kate Bush part on Don’t Give Up, a lovely haunting voice. This along with Solsbury Hill do it for me (along with early Genesis, obvs, & chuck in a bit of Baba O’Reily by The Who, and Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd while I’m at it). Have a lovely day all!👍🎼🎸🎹xxx

Love comfortably numb!!

I think you’d like ‘The Departed’ soundtrack-comfortably numb features on that as well as ‘gimme shelter’ another of my favourites! It’s a real soundtrack with attitude.

I love anything Kate Bush-she’s spot on! And together with Peter Gabriel, just perfect!

Great choices for my playlist!! Loads of variety too :)

Thank you! X

She is amazing, such a talent and still going strong! My first ever album was The Kick Inside. The Departed, awesome. I have totally distracted myself this morning tripping down memory lane, bouncing between Eminem (played loud, lots of swearing, great as kids at school!) Billy Joel ( ah..great songwriter) and Sergeant Pepper! Feel quite energised to crack on with some work now! X

Love Joy Division! The soundtrack to American Horror Story Hotel has loads of darker tracks from the 80s I'm sure you'd like it, worth a listen! Its very edgy.

Oh oh oh! I’ve just taken a look at the playlist - The Jesus and Mary Chain, Bauhaus and The Cure! Edgy indeed! Eekt is sure to like all that stuff too! A definite listen to tomorrow, just kicked back to a completely different genre, The Buena Vista Social Club, mellow Cuban guitar sound....have a nice evening all 😘
