Butterfly Rash only at night

Hi

I am diagnosed with RA and now there is talk of me having SLE. I get a red burning rash right across my face, under my eyes and over my nose overnight. It looks like sunburn but isn't.

Does anyone else only get it at night?

Thanks

Heather

I have the opposite issue, mine likes to appear in the morning and chills out during the day. I’ve always wondered if time of day influenced it.

Any chance you’re getting a lot of UV/heat exposure during the day? That might cause it to flare at night. Just a thought.

Hi Thank you for answering, I don't really have a lot of UV/heat exposure although in this current weather it is hard to avoid! I have had this occurring even in the winter months so I am guessing it could be when I am tired perhaps?

Oh, definitely. Stress, fatigue ... you name it. All of those can bring on a rash. UV just happens to be common. Personally, stress is the one for me that makes it appear the fastest and last the longest.

Fatigue with the RA is a big factor with me. I found that last night the rash was burning so badly it kept me awake and today I ache from head to foot. Hope you can stay stress free for a while at least.

Your rash sounds very similar to mine. I feel like I’m going to combust and it gets worse in the evening. It gets noticeably worse if my hormones are spiking!

Recently I’ve started getting the rash on my hands, legs and feet. I kind of feel like the longer this is going on the symptoms are getting worse.

Mine shows when I'm super stressed or when I get in the sun to much. Mine also goes around my mouth and chin sometimes and my chest and arms occasionally.

glad to hear someone mention their chin - my GPs have found it curious that I go red on my chin; quite often that's were it starts! I'm completely covered up in the light so it's not contact like sun burn!

Mine always starts on my chin as well

I've run out of hormones! LOL. I'm 65. So sorry you are going through all this too. Unless you experience it, I don't think anyone really 'gets' it.

I only notice my rash on my face during the morning, unless I have been out in the sun and then I have it all the time.

Yes mine is definitely worse if I do ever catch the sun.

often for me it is evenings, or going to bed, perhaps a build up of the day. For the first year or so it was whenever... ut settled down now.

It does not take lot for my face to flare up on my chin, checks and nose , to much wind , to much cold , to much sun any think can set it off bushing the cat past my check and also sunblock cream . The burning pain can be mind to serve pain like bad sunburn have learned to be very careful you have to look out for your triggers you could be overheating in bed under covers. wish you good days
