I'd love to link up with any horse riders who suffer from Lupus. I'm having some minor problems and it would be good to share experiences and solutions.

Yes ,I don't know of anyone else horsey with lupus
I am psyching myself up for horsey competition, and know I will be ill after next weekend ,have to do practicing then rest all day, weather forecast is showers so at least I won't be affected by the sun, taking hot water bottle to stop legs cramping,, and a friend who is a nurse, hope you OK ,
Good luck with the comp. Is driving your discipline?
Hi Heke. Nice to hear from a fellow horse nut lol, l was very involved with horses for most of my life working full time with them before my health went a bit downhill, my daughter is also horse mad.
I have recently had a new hip (September last year) and one of my bucket wishes if you like was to be able to go back riding after a 20 year break !! My surgeon looked at me like l was completely nuts, but he saw that l was serious, so he said that as long as the horse is not too wide l should be good to go.
What sort of competition are you doing, dressage? showjumping ?. If your wrists are hurting it maybe a little tension down your arms which in turn affect your wrists, if you can try doing some stretching before you start, and while warming up your horse allow time to keep stretching even if you just do it with your upper body , for leg cramp try drinking tonic water as that can help.
Good luck, please let us know how you get on.
Hi, I'm an all rounder. Up until October we were doing low level eventing. Nora had a minor injury, but she's over that now and we're just building up her strength and stamina. Dressage is my first love and I ride for a team. However, I'm finding that after about half an hour the contact starts to feel weighty and my wrists start to really ache. I think I'm going to speak to British Dressage to find out what aids I can use as I believe there is something that can be attached to the reins for this problem.
What did you used to do with horses? Does your daughter compete? I do hope you manage to get back on board!

Hi. I have a horse and a Dartmoor pony. I'm only a happy hacker, I used to do dressage in my younger days (many, many years ago..lol). I have Lupus Nephritis..diagnosed last June, and I haven't experienced any physical effects so far. I consider myself very lucky to be pain free. X x
Was excited to see this post! I’m a former competitive rider and have recently been thinking of getting back into it. Sadly, my doctors aren’t as supportive b/c of the impact on the joints and the UV exposure. However, I’m keeping it as a goal because it’s such a wonderful sport! Best of luck with the riding!
Hi there. I used to do endurance. Could only do short distances and not that often but went from novice to open which was nice to do. Lots of pain ...no real solutions except pain killers sunblock and plenty of water.......but worth every minute. I stopped when my horse had to retire as no more resources for a third...already had one 'pensioner' so the inn is full! Have really missed riding but get a lot out of day to day interaction with the horses. I am convinced of their amazing therapeutic affect on we mere humans.
