Having Lupus and being a carer.

Hi everyone. My gorgeous cherub is 22 and has Autism. He receives high rate both of PIP. I claim carers allowance for him. We have carers coming him to take him out etc a few hours per week. Mainly because its exhausting for me.

Due to my Lupus, fibro etc etc I'm thinking of claiming PIP. Now the question is should I bother ? Ive read that PIP will instantly turn you down if you claim carers. Even though our difficulties are completely different.

Are any of you in my position and successfully claimed? Thank you x

Why not contact CAB and ask for advice? They know a lot about the ins and outs.

You have nothing to lose - go to Citizens Advice and talk to them first. Good luck - I am a sole carer for my husband and I have Sjogren's and Discoid Lupus - not easy but I am grateful I can care for him.

Your local Welfare Rights Officer (who can be found at your council office) will come to you to help you fill in the forms and appeal if you need to do so.
