Brest pain. 35 yr old woman.
Yep same here. It's chostochondritis for me. Extremely painful at times but I take it as my body's way of saying "sit down"! It's inflammation of the cartilage where the ribs join into the sternum.
Do you have lupus? If this is the first time you've experienced this it's best to get it checked out just in case it's something else.
Ive Had the exact same thing since late last year - a mammogram last week (and an ultrasound) showed some lumps and changes in the tissue which are completely benign and probably due to hormonal changes and fibro/AI damage. But don't hesitate to get it checked to put your mind at ease.
Hello. Yes, I get this pain. Exactly where you say. Left side breast area pain.
I experienced costochondritis leading up to my diagnosis and that, for me at that time, was more of a both sides of the ribs pain.
I also experience swollen glands under my left arm, with pains radiating down my left arm, from these glands. I haven't had the same gland pains and rib pain on my right side. I think, for some reason, I get more inflammation on my left side.
I have never asked about this pain on my left breast side. I guess, there is always a list of questions for each medical appointment and you are lucky enough to cover 3/4 of your list each time and there are always other priorities.
I have to say that I have always put it down to lupus type aches, pains and inflammation.
I have monthly bloods and have had numerous MRIs etc recently for other issues, so always think that if there was anything more sinister going on that it would have been picked up by now.
Plus I don't have any breast lumps. I do check myself and if things changed I wouldn't hesitate to go the doctors to get it checked out.
It can be very difficult for us lupies to work out what is urgent and what isn't.
If you are newly diagnosed might be worth raising it at next appt with rheumy, but if you are very concerned and your gut feeling says get it checked out by GP straight away - go with your gut feeling. I think generally us lupies know our bodies very well.
Good luck.
Please go to see your GP. This could be so many things from inflamed cartilage to something more sinister. Do not leave it. x
Thank you everyone. I have been having this pain for some time, and may I ask what lupus is?
Brandy81, take a look at the Lupus UK website for reliable information about lupus symptoms and diagnosis. It's a small charity but they have lots of info. They also administer this site. I have also replied to your other post this morning. I misunderstood. I thought you were posting on the Lupus UK Health Unlocked community site because you had a lupus diagnosis or were heading down that route already. See your other post for my info. Wendy
