Hi there, any idea which hair removal is safe in SLE? There are different opinions on this issue.... there must be one hair removal for patients of SLE.... IPL, laser or thermicon technology used in NoNo. I also suffer from APS and am warfanised.
Hair removal and sle : Hi there, any idea which... - LUPUS UK
Hair removal and sle
I believe that electrolysis is a no-no with warfarin due to the risk of bleeding and bruising. To some extent the same must apply to shaving if you aren't very very careful.

These are posts from people with APS who wax and one person epilates - I did while on a drug similar to warfarin.
Maybe your doctor knows (a woman might be more likely to) - though I wouldn't hold my breath!
Thank you for your reply.
That's the problem much of the hair removals can interact with sle and aps 😕. In the user manual of ILP treatment by Philips they say do not use it if you suffer from SLE. Now just one hope is there which thermicon technology used for NoNo as it doesn't say any restrictions for lupus and APS.
Anyone else know about it please reply to me.
Hello. What areas are you thinking? I shave my bikini line, legs and arm pits. My legs and bikini line can get very dry and itchy, so I do not want to use hair removal creams etc. I have to moisturise my legs after showering and definitely after shaving. As far as my eye brows and upper lip are concerned (moan, the joys of being 42 and acquiring even mor hair in places you don't want it!) I used to get it waxed but now prefer threading. Luckily I've never had a reaction. If people ask about your health or skin conditions at spas etc they normally shy away from loads of treatments, if you say you have lupus. ☹️ Good luck.
I had laser treatment to remove facial hair. I first had to have a test patch done and I waited whilst they consult with their doctor if I could carry on having the treatment. After a few weeks the test patch showed no adverse side effect so I carried on with the treatment (which worked).
The treatment was done in 2010 and all the hair went and has never returned. It was very expensive but the electrolysis I was having was starting to leave marks where the hair was pulled out because of taking Prednisolone.
It means laser is no harm for SLE, That's good to know! But it is very expensive
Hi onosma1 . It doesn't necessarily mean that it is not harmless for everybody with SLE. It is very important to remember that everybody with lupus is different and what is fine for one person could be harmful for another. Light sensitivity can vary significantly in lupus with some not experiencing it at all and others not even able to tolerate visible light, let alone UV.
