Hair loss and thinning help
Hi when I was younger I had hair falling out Dr's said it's alopecia so may grow back it didn't till I went to a herbalist &they made up some cream to put on my scalp about a month later started to have hair regrow .x
Lupus itself can make your hair fall out or meds you take to treat it can also cause hair loss. For me I had hair falling out like crazy before I was being treated. Whenever my SLE flares I lose hair everywhere. Once I started the plaquenil it grew back in to the point I didn't have the bald patches but my hair is still thinner than it used to be. I'm also on benlyst and methotrexate which can cause hair loss as the are chemo agents. But my dr put me on folic acid supplements which in general strengthen your hair but help combat loss from those drugs. I guess the chemo drugs cause a loss of folate and that's why our hair wants to fall out. If we can replace some of it we can fight the hair loss and some of the other side effects. Hope that helps. I also have know of people taking biotin supplements. I used to be a hair dresser and also hair skin and nail vitamins. Have seen it work for some. If your hair loss has anything to do with vitamin deficiency then it will help. And none of them should hurt you, but please check with your dr about any interactions before starting anything.

Hi Jakki;
I was diagnosed with lupus (SLE) about 3 years ago, and yes I have had hair loss. I am a 56 year old guy, now the hair on my head is now starting to thin but, I have absolutely no body hair from the neck down. I have no hair under my arms, no chest hair, no leg hair and yes, I have no pubic hair. I take Hydroxychloriquine, methotrexate, and 21 other medications a day. I have lupus, COPD, & Malignant Hypertension. So I'm not sure if it is lupus, medications or both. It could be a. Combination of any and all?
This probably didn't help you much other than knowing you are not alone with the issue of hair loss. There are a lot of us.
I didn't know it, I was embarrassed at first going to doctors and having no body hair but, I have found out and been told it is nothing unusual with a lot of medication and with lupus. So now it doesn't bother me and I think nothing of it now.
That is just one of and the least of my issues with lupus!
Wishing you a BLESSED WEEKEND!

Hello! I also have Lupus SLE. After I had my daughter 21 years ago, I started losing patches of hair on my head and was told I had alopecia (sp?). They would always grow back and it seemed that stress was the main contributing factor to the hair loss. Then about 10 years ago I lost ALL the hair on my head. It started falling out and just didn't quit. I was getting shots from the dermatologist to stimulate growth which may or may not have helped but after it fell out, it ALL grew back. It's not as thick as it used to be, but I will take it!! I personally think that stress was the main factor when I lost all of my hair as well. I got a flair up and because I was so freaked out about it, I just perpetuated it. Sometimes I still get times when my hair starts to thin again but I just try to take a breath and have faith!!
Hi Jakki.
Sorry to hear your situation. I don't know if I am allowed to give a trade name but ........... I tried HairFix products of Shampoo, Conditioner plus a Gel which have made a big difference to my hair loss and thinning. I got them from QVC on 90 day trial offer (which is still in place) and will continue to use them as it really has made a difference in loss, thickness plus it is a great deal healthier according to my hairdresser.
Hope this helps.

Hi, my hair halved as a result if side effects from methotrexate. Only when I secretly stopped taking it for 9 months did my hair start to grow a bit. Then I had a three month lupus flare so had to start taking my medication again. It’s a vicious circle. I haven’t found anything to make it grow back. X
