Does anyone know if Quinine Sulphate is used for Lupus or Connective Tissue problems?

I was prescribed Plaquanil/Hydroxychloroquine but has a horrific reaction to this but I know I can take Quinine Sulphate as I took it at very high dosages when treating Lyme and co-infections in 2006-2008

Hi riannabri ,

Quinine was used in the treatment of lupus in the past but it was never highly recommended. There were possibly some doubts about how effective it was and it could have undesirable side effects in the high doses required.

There are other more modern antimalarials such as mepacrine which may potentially be an option if you cannot take hydroxychloroquine.
